Watching the above show and wondering why do we cast black actors as Russian revolutionaries in the early 1900's. Or as a paramour to a white movie star in the same show?

I mean, I know why. But I'm wondering if it is as annoying to others as it is to me. I love historical fiction and period films and the (mis)casting of things that would never have happened is as glaring as having Henry the 8th wearing an Apple watch.

Do the producers not know how annoying this is to the average viewer or do they not give a frick?

Someone said it’s ok since races weren’t specified in the novel.

I won't watch that shite.

I watch very few shows or movies produced in the last 15 years as they generally suck.

Have you heard about the play they did for Alexander Hamilton? How avant garde!

That's why I have no interest in seeing Hamilton or Bridgerton or any of that DEI shite.

I read A Gentleman in Moscow and it's hard to believe they'd miscast it so badly. But then I can't believe half of what the leftists do.

I wish to add that I do recognize that the main character is being played by a Scotsman, and that I'm not upset the entire cast isn't speaking Russian. But the first time I see black faces my brain just jumps to "uh... black Bolsheviks?" I would have made the same comment had they been Chinese or Indian, but we aren't trying to push these races into nonsensical casting.

When it’s done in a series that’s satire like The Great or Bridgerton it doesn’t bother me one bit. In fact it adds to the ridiculousness they’re making fun of. In A Gentleman in Moscow it’s borderline absurd.

Started watching Baby Reindeer and the hetero protagonist out of nowhere decides to make an account on a tranny dating site and falls in love with a shim.

They try and slip it into the story like it’s completely normal.

Manipulative freaks.

Speaking of Anne Boleyn. This was from wiki:
quote:

There was some criticism of the race swapping historical characters, as some of the actors were Black and the characters portrayed were White, such as Boleyn herself.[17] The Radio Times described this as "identity-conscious casting" and quoted the actor Mark Stanley: "It was all about this being the right person for the job, rather than what we as a society might perceive as the ‘right look’ for the job".[18]

Hilarious. They wouldn’t apply that logic to anything else but this

I thought that was supposed to be based on a true story? If that's what actually happened I don't see the problem

Gonna have to disagree with you there. In this instance, I think it greatly added to his depravity and lack of mental health. It was a not so subtle poke that maybe these folks aren't right in the head and it was mostly do to a gay rapist.

Anyway, frick the casing on this show. Let me know when that chalamet fella plays Malcolm X.
