So you don’t like complex characters and a story that makes you think, got it.

What was complex about any character in the show? Cops and thugs. Don't make this complicated. No character was complex.

The chess scene is what hooked people? I thought season 2 wasn't bad like people make it out to be. Season 5 is some of the worst TV.

It's not a complex show. You love it. I think it's a shite show. I'm not the only one. Multiple people can't get into it because it's so boring. I watched it because of this forum. This is one yall got totally wrong.

And this is why none of your posts on this show should be taken seriously.

BS. The Wire fricking sucks. Multiple people think the same here. It's only you edgy fricks that think you need to read between the lines, and enjoy the scenery, type nuts that think it's special. Law and Order is the same thing as the Wire. Nothing special about it either. I'll never recommend someone watch this series. You literally have to force yourself to watch it. Sorry that's not good TV.

Anyone recommending someone watch that series is being a douche. Tell them to watch Mork and Mindy instead.

Ironically my 2 favorite shows. Maybe it doesn't suck...maybe it's just not your thing. I was watching The Wizard of Oz last night and it reminded of the Wire.

Just the opening scene of The Wire with Snot Boogie is incredible. They lay out the rules...and we get to experience it at every level. Same rules different outcomes.

But to say a show sucks...meanwhile they have colleges teaching courses on The Wire...so it can't suck that bad

It’s pretty obvious you were determined to hate the show before you watched because it was so hyped or the board recommended it. Sounds like you prefer simple 2 dimensional formula shows and that’s perfect fine. Just because you don’t see or won’t to see the themes and depth in the wire does not mean they aren’t there.

No.

The Wire is widely regarded by some as one of the best TV shows of all-time. It's not even remotely exclusive to this board. You're the one being "edgy" here.

Indepedent: The BBC Names The Wire as the Greatest Show of the 21st Century

NYTimes: Why The Wire Stands Alone After 20 Years

Rolling Stone: The Wire #4 Show of 100 Best TV Shows of All-Time

Vulture: The Wire is the Greatest TV Drama of the Past 25 Years

The Hollywood Reporter: The Wire #5 of 50 Best TV Shows of The 21st Century

That's fine if you don't like it or it's not your cup of tea. But you look like a slack-jawed moron running around screaming that it's terrible.

This statement is so incredibly stupid and wrong my first instinct is to think it’s a troll because no one can be this dim. No matter what you think of the quality of either show or which one you like better outside of both being “cop shows” there are literally polar opposites.

Law and order is a cookie cutter formula show. crime happens before the show, investigation, arrest, trail. Nice neat resolution in 45 minutes. There’s zero character or story development. The characters are interchangeable which is why it’s lasted so long with different actors and spin off shows over the years. You are not invested in any of the characters because you don’t know them. It only shows you the cops and prosecutors and only working on the case of the week. The plots are “ripped from the headlines”.

The Wire focuses on different institutions each season (Criminal Justice, Capitalism, Politics, Education, the Media) and how it affects the people both working in it and outside it. It does take the time to develop characters.

Again you don’t have to like the Wire, but same as Law and Order is like saying a comic book is the same as a novel. If you’re going to compare the Wire to a network show it would be more like Hill Street Blues.

You put in way too much effort to argue with this guy.

The Wire is so average to him that he has 20+ posts across multiple threads declaring its “average-ness” yet everyone else in the world is being edgy.

Nah, bro. You just aren’t intelligent enough to deduce how masterful it was.

Moral ambiguity and complex personalities were a hallmark of character development in The Wire.

You either didn't watch the show, have a lower than room temperature IQ, or you enjoy mental yoga in an effort to be edgy.

Do you really believe that just because a college teaching a course, it makes something valid? Really? That's a shite opinion, and I could give you a myriad of examples. And for the record, I like The Wire.

Unfortunately, OP shows that great slow burn shows like the Wire, Breaking Bad and Sopranos will no longer exist. Most people just don’t have the attention span for those type shows anymore.

You don't have to be intelligent to think it sucked. If that's what masterful is I never need to watch another masterful series ever.

BB and The Sopranos are great shows. I've done so many rewatches of The Sopranos that I've lost count. The Sopranos is tGOAT for me.

I had to force myself to watch the first two seasons of The Wire. It's a turd compared to BB and The Sopranos. I can't even finish the first episode of S3 of The Wire. I'm done with the laborious task of watching this crap.

You got cops chasing thugs....there are no characters in The Wire that I give a shite about. The Sopranos is chock full of memorable characters. I'd rather do another 100 rewatches of The Sopranos than spend another minute on The Wire.

For me it's mostly about the genre.
I'm not interested in thug life type shows/movies.
While I appreciate the authenticity of shows/movies like The Godfather, The Sopranos, The Wire, etc., I'm simply not interested in portrayals of that aspect of life.
And yes, I'm a milk drinker who prefers more wholesome content like Hallmark shows and movies.

With the exception of Toe-knee in therapy in the beginning, the Sopranos quickly became a cliched mob show.
