I just saw the movie and I have no frickin idea what I watched. Can somebody decide whether it's a good or bad movie for me?

Reviews are kind of shitty so far.
Looks like a lot of people don’t get it either.

Only heard a review of it and it sounds pretty bad.
If you can't decide if you saw some masterpiece or a pile of garbage, it's probably the latter.

I guess I made the mistake of never seeing any of Ari Aster's other films prior to this (Hereditary, Midsommer). There were parts of it that were interesting, the acting was great, but the last act of the movie is...well...

I know the head of LA’s film critic association was extremely mixed on this.
She didn’t like it, said it was very plodding and she didn’t really enjoy it.
She did say she encouraged people to watch it if they might like it because there’s a lot of good stuff to unpack but it’s a film she appreciated but didn’t enjoy watching

Isn't it almost 3hrs? Review I heard said that knocking 40-45 minutes off would make it a much better movie.

I would agree as well. The first and even second act of the movie well paced enough and more interesting, but that last act when it's hour three is a bit brutal

It's 91st out of 130 A24 movies on rotten tomatoes
Doesn't mean anything. Heck, they've got Free Fire (2016) 93rd, Spring Breakers (2012) 97th & The Rover (2014) ranked 98th. I saw those and they didn't suck.
#86 The Ballad of Lefty Brown was good.
First Cow is the only one of their top 10 I've seen. I liked it. Like their Amy Winehouse, Brian De Palma & Val Kilmer documentaries that are in their top 20. Haven't seen the majority of their movies.
Red Rocket, The Lobster & Midsommar are movies I'd advise to watch once.

From the trailer I thought it was The Truman Show on Acid.

Loved it. Definitely gonna need a rewatch. Much to unpack.

I’m not really sure what the frick that was.
It had some entertaining parts but not sure I would watch it again.
This is a miss for Aster.

It’s way too long, needed to be cut in half.

It's very polarizing. I've seen it make a number of best movies of the year lists.
I liked Hereditary and Midsommar - tried to watch Beau is Afraid twice and gave up midway through. It's just shrill, ugly and annoying. I read a plot synopsis on Wikipedia and thank God I quit watching it. I would have kicked myself in the arse for wasting three hours on that shite. (I was also going through some heavy personal shite - my Mom died a month or so earlier - so I really wasn't in the right frame of mind for this.)
But hey, your mileage may vary! I'd rather see a director strike out swinging instead of making Flash 2.

2 and a half hours of way too much surrealism based on a man child basically complaining about his own problems the entire time.. was not a fan, there's much better films of the same ilk that aren't nearly as tedious to watch.

I can get down with surreal, like Twin Peaks style. I haven't tried this one yet due to the length; not sure if I'm ready to invest 3 hrs into it.

So I just finished this and I liked it . Also Parker Posey looks damn good at 56. Dat arse

Just watched it. Incredible acting, and darkly humorous, but so surreal and metaphysical that it was disorienting. It's like Ari Aster tried to make a David Lynch, Spike Jonze, and maybe a little Tim Burton movie written by Charlie Kaufman. In the upper echelon of most bizarre movies I've ever watched. I kind of stopped trying to pick up on things because it was so out there that it didn't seem like it mattered.
Overall, this movie is quite a spectacle, and it is an objectively impressive work, but I'm not really sure what exactly to think of it.

I just saw this article. Guess I should have seen it before we decided to eat a little bit of fungus before we watched it
