I’m convinced it’s because the Sespa FBI guy was in their ear. He was involved. Probably knew the kidnapper and set it up and then threatened him with death when he was caught. There should have been a thorough investigation into the FBI guy, but, yeah, who am I kidding.

Like another poster said, don’t talk to cops kids. Don’t say a damn word. If I was the guy and in there reporting the kidnapping and the questioning started to get anywhere other than what happened or focused on me, mouth would be zipped immediately.
Can’t believe he took a lie detector. I would have told them to FO.

I’ll add to this by saying if you’ve ever sat a jury for a criminal case before, nothing in the world will scare you more than being wrongfully accused of something. Good lord, some of the absolute dumbest people I’ve ever interacted with. Like, can’t follow basic logic, can’t be reasoned with. So between an investigative force susceptible to bias and a decision making group full of really questionable intellects, it’s no wonder we have a real issue with locking up people who didn’t do anything wrong at the behest of actual criminals who figured out how to beat the obviously flawed system. I get raked over the coals a bunch for being against the death penalty, but the above commentary is a perfect explanation of why I'm against it.

Truly inexcusable. The part that makes the least sense is why so EARLY ON they SO STRIDENTLY came out publicly against the couple.

Little late to the thread but just watched this.

Muller lived on the island at one point. Near the victims home. The college kids knew him as the peeping tom or "creeper" and said he was ex military.

Muller obviously knew the fiance and Aaron from his time living on the Island.
Muller later moved to the wooded area, you see in the doc, and went back to the island to kidnap Aaron's fiance but they had already split up, unbeknownst to Muller, so he took Denise instead.

The fact that they never looked into the other, allegedly kidnappers is insane but par for the course for this case. Muller says they were college friends and ex marines. Now wether they actually existed or Muller made the whole thing up to rape Denise again we may never know.
