Again, cops are supposed to know that there is no "normal" reaction - especially not if someone has been drugged.

O I'm not excusing their actions in the least bit. They are/were awful at their job. The police department as a whole handled this terribly. It made no sense to come out one day after and basically label this as a non kidnapping/Gone Girl situation. The Asian cops initial press conference was so stupid. Why say those things about the case when you have no definite answer to anything. Made no sense for them to do that but they were so idiotic and overconfident and had watched a movie that was similar so I guess they thought they cracked the case. Bozos.

I remember listening to the Criminal podcast episode on this and having my mind blown by the investigators. Anyone who trusts cops needs to watch this. And I'm not saying that all cops/departments are incompetent pieces of shite, but there are enough of them out there in this country where you always need to be mindful of the fact that they can, and will frick you.

If anyone wants to listen to the Criminal podcast on the case, here is the link:

It was truly crazy how aggressive and early they were with that. Just the definition of unprofessional. Sounds like the CoP had some kind of axe to grind.

As dumb as these cops clearly were, I will say that the boyfriend was not very likeable. My wife did not like him at all. He was so casual in the interview that I can kind of see why the cops didn't believe him. Just another reason to attorney up.

combine his lack of emotion during the 911 call, to his presentation during the initial interview, along with the bizarreness of history, with the motives presented, i could see why the cops didn’t believe him. i didn’t believe him.

and i cant believe the GF didn’t immediately call her BF upon being released. instead, she gets released at her parents neighborhood and texts her dad, then seemingly goes thru a lawyer in the days that followed to finally reach out to the boyfriend.

I’m convinced it’s because the Sespa FBI guy was in their ear. He was involved. Probably knew the kidnapper and set it up and then threatened him with death when he was caught. There should have been a thorough investigation into the FBI guy, but, yeah, who am I kidding.

Like another poster said, don’t talk to cops kids. Don’t say a damn word. If I was the guy and in there reporting the kidnapping and the questioning started to get anywhere other than what happened or focused on me, mouth would be zipped immediately.
Can’t believe he took a lie detector. I would have told them to FO.

Why did he want to go after the guys previous fiancé. It’s like they said, oh well, fbi guy used to date ex fiancé, but no problem.

I wish they would have touched on the potential others that worked with Muller. They touched on the blow up doll for a second. Did this dude set up a blow up doll pretending it was another accomplice? What about the other people Denise heard at the cabin?

Honestly thought the blow up doll was just as likely for the HOV lane

I’ll add to this by saying if you’ve ever sat a jury for a criminal case before, nothing in the world will scare you more than being wrongfully accused of something. Good lord, some of the absolute dumbest people I’ve ever interacted with. Like, can’t follow basic logic, can’t be reasoned with. So between an investigative force susceptible to bias and a decision making group full of really questionable intellects, it’s no wonder we have a real issue with locking up people who didn’t do anything wrong at the behest of actual criminals who figured out how to beat the obviously flawed system. Scary shite.

I get raked over the coals a bunch for being against the death penalty, but the above commentary is a perfect explanation of why I'm against it.

While they were interviewing/interrogating the boyfriend, I kept wondering why they didn't check his phone. They would see the texts. Heck, I was wondering why he didn't tell them to check his phone. Then it's revealed they put it on airplane mode? I mean, that has to be intentional.

Truly inexcusable. The part that makes the least sense is why so EARLY ON they SO STRIDENTLY came out publicly against the couple.

Did you watch the Jared from Subway documentary?
The witness had to get the police to go after the FBI because they weren't trying to actually stop Jared and others from doing what they were doing.

The FBI is great on TV shows, real life seems to be a different story.

And they never cleared up why Andrea was the target. Only because Muller didn’t say?

Little late to the thread but just watched this.

Muller lived on the island at one point. Near the victims home. The college kids knew him as the peeping tom or "creeper" and said he was ex military.

Muller obviously knew the fiance and Aaron from his time living on the Island.
Muller later moved to the wooded area, you see in the doc, and went back to the island to kidnap Aaron's fiance but they had already split up, unbeknownst to Muller, so he took Denise instead.

The fact that they never looked into the other, allegedly kidnappers is insane but par for the course for this case. Muller says they were college friends and ex marines. Now wether they actually existed or Muller made the whole thing up to rape Denise again we may never know.

One version I read was that the other car she heard was actually a pizza delivery. Once he placed the order he came in and told her his crewmembers were on the way. He incorporated it into his story to give him another reason to rape her, as if he was taking orders from someone else. She heard the car and assumed it was other members of his group.
