It was glorious. Hadn't watched it in over 15 years.

It was either that or The Mummy and I've seen that a whole lot more.

The cast was just perfect and you aren't getting that these days.

It felt classic and that was probably Scott coming on to direct.

Was surprised how much I enjoyed the sets on the big screen

The night before I'm watching the beginning of infinity war and Peter Parker mentions this old movie aliens, kismet

I watch it from time to time when I get a chance to actually watch an R rated film.

The used future set designs, the squabbling between the engineers (Brett and Parker) and the flight crew over “the bonus situation”, the subtle hints upon rewatch that the reveal of one crewman was fairly done and not an arse pull, etc, all contributed to a film that mostly feels timeless.

The only real zeerust involved is the MOTHER computer being similar to a 2001 HAL control panel rather than being closer to what we know. And even then it comes off as the Nostromo being an extremely old vessel possibly being held together by spit and bailing wire.

I'm ashamed to admit that I had almost forgot about what Ash was. (After 45 years maybe someone on here hasn't seen it

The prompts that are asked or typed to MOTHER will always make me chuckle

Ever used an old school mainframe interface?

My office had a COBOL system covering parts of our data up until the mid 2000s and would use a lot of arcane commands similar to what was used to communicate with MOTHER.

It’s still Ridley Scott’s best movie. I highly recommend the 4K UHD disc. It’s incredible how clean and crisp it looks in 4K.

Also, does anyone else think the Alien raped Lambert? The HR Ginger sexual undertones are prevalent a lot in the first movie before it was toned down in the sequels

Yep, it raped her with its tail. Probably had the urge to reproduce and I honestly don't know if the worker aliens had the ability to propagate the species, only the queen correct??

It's a deleted scene. It absolutely happened.

Regular dirt bags in space was a novel concept.

Usually they looked like John Glenn before Alien.

The movie is more revolutionary beyond scare tactics...the 70s gritty vibe on its last legs before the 80s.

In Aliens, Ripley tells the Marines that an Alien wiped out her entire crew in less than 24 hours. So, it took the Aliens less than 24 hours to grow to full adult size?

Supposedly, yes. And they explained that in the novelization by claiming the chest buster made it into the ship’s stores and consumed enough material to become full grown, hence Brett finding the shed skin before the full grown alien got him.

One of the GOAT horror movies. Even if they never show the alien really, the set and the way it's filmed lend itself to top-notch horror. But then when we do see the Xenomorph it lives up to the hype and is horror personified. Just an absolute homerun monster/antagonist.

As highly-praised as Alien is, sometimes I think it's even underrated a little.

If Alien is underrated, I would say it is because Cameron did so well with Aliens.

Same universe, different genre, with action being more accessible than horror / suspense.

If Cameron had flubbed it or there were no sequel, Alien is likely remembered even more fondly because of it remaining such an original creation.

Reminds me of the Spitting Image special covering the 1987 Oscars.

The summary of Aliens was Sigourney’s puppet saying “You go upstairs and die stupidly! You go downstairs and die even more stupidly! I’m going to stay here and strip to my underwear!”

alien vs predator

I low key loved the first one.

The second one is the literal darkest movie ever made. For like 75% of the movie you can't see/tell what the frick is happening.
