Just finished watching. From someone who has watched the original the past 25 years, I think they did a fantastic job on this.

We just finished it.
It was great. Definitely had a few dusty moments and a lot of laughs.
Ralph's voice was the only thing that nagged at me, but what can you do?

That was EXACTLY the first thing that worried me...I said, oh shite are we going to get this grating narration all film...but like most things you get used to it, though it takes a good half hour to get into the movie.

Just finished it, and thought it was great. I agree with whoever said it’s totally dependent on knowing the original, but who doesn’t at this point?
As someone who grew up watching it as a kid, and is now a father, it hit me in ways I didn’t expect.
“He knows. He always knows.”

We watched it tonight and loved it. Perfect tone, didn’t try to outdo the original. Flick’s bar, the Bumpases, the toxic air you could taste… they paid respect to the books as well as the original film. Drunk, old Julie Haggerty had us laughing.

Great movie laughed out loud throughout.

I'm literally about to press play on this movie. Someone mentioned in this thread he is best friends with Vince Vaughn and mentioning the other movies his in.
I never realized he is one of the couple friends in the movie "The Break-Up."
I'm glad he's done well for himself. I love the original movie. My wife and her friends/family from Chicago hate it. Aggravates me to no end they don't want to watch it every year.

I enjoyed it. I love how it is a piece basically dedicated to the old man, who was the best character of the first movie. And how they weave the two movies at the end...brilliant stuff.

God damn. I can’t believe how good this was. I definitely teared up at the Christmas morning scene.

This was a really well done movie. There was just enough nostalgia bait without it being superfluous. Peter Billingsley nailed his reprisal. The kids were cute, his wife was cool. Literally my only change would be to make it more like the first one where it’s a bunch of individually awesome and memorable scenes, and not the traditional storyline like most movies.

We just finished it and it was outstanding. Just the right Easter Eggs from the original, and not just a regurgitated remake. I had high hopes and it met them all.
She’s always awesome.
Did anybody else get a ‘Just Friends’ vibe with the carolers? They weren’t really hated in that movie, but there were EVERYWHERE, and when the come to the door, Mom yells ‘The jig is up!’ which is also from JF. Maybe it was just a coincidence brought on by Julie Hagerty’s role.

quote:The original was pieced together from stories published separately (some involving other holidays and non-holiday events). Not that you couldn’t recreate it, but they had the benefit of picking out the best stories from all of Shepherd’s articles and radio shows.

This is a very enjoyable movie. In fact I watched it twice already.

It was ok. Not In the same universe as the original. What I liked best and what I think saved the movie is that they brought back all the original kid actors to reprise their roles. With the exception of Melinda Dillon who played the mom in the original, they did a great job of using the original actors.
