Same thing that happened to the Lady Techsters. Can’t compete with big money programs. Things change.

I love all the Tech fans ignorant of reality… posts saying “well why didn’t we hire Mulkey before Baylor”

Let’s say Tech did… then she would have left

1998 regional game vs CSF was insane. Down big. Huge comeback. Homers like crazy. Sweating our asses off for over 3 hours. The humidity was about 400%.

That LSU regional during the 1990’s , playing against USCw was nerve wrecking. Getting to the old Box at 10 am to sit on the metal bleachers. I got sunburned so bad. My heart nearly gave out watching those final games.

Another good example. OU’s team is full of California girls.

same with Juco? I remember Fullerton and Long Beach used to always get some very solid players from the cali jucos.

Fullerton, Long Beach State, UC-Irvine, and other schools like that being able to offer a full ride would be able to curb some of the housing struggles these players find when trying to find housing in California.

Being allowed to and being able to are different things.

You used to hear about California producing so much talent because they played year round. Even in the South, kids would only play on their local little league team for a few months. Youth ball, travel ball, and even high school baseball is much bigger in ACC and SEC country than in was in the 80’s.

A lot of good answers in this thread, but this is the one that nailed it. Travel baseball has exploded in the South. It was popular in Cali long before anywhere else.

SEC went all in on college baseball.

You'll often see the best players on West Coast teams enter transfer portal and join SEC teams.

Why is that? Baseball in SoCal used to be like football in the south.

USC and UCLA will have way more revenue in the Big 10. That may help with baseball.

The Midwest region universities have much better baseball than they’ve had in years past.

Maybe the geographic shift from west coast to Midwest is where we are seeing college baseball being more popular.

That’s all because of football money… it’s skewing every sport now.

I remember when the Big Ten was a one bid conference in baseball

Back in the day, there wasn’t much difference between playing at Fullerton or Long Beach vs. let’s say, Ole Miss or Clemson. Moderate crowds, not on TV, moderate facilities. A California kid would just stay home.

Now, every SEC game is on TV with elite facilities. Same with a lot of the ACC and Big 12. There real incentive to go across the country. Most of those west coast programs have garbage facilities and even worse fan support.

For Fullerton in particular, they’ve been down hill since they let Tennessee hire away Dave Serrano

if you grew up playing baseball in the 90's/00's it was hard not to like them. Our travel team was named after them and had similar colors.

their jerseys and logo were iconic and they were always competing for Omaha. make fullerton great again!
