Sounds like a bad business decision. Add another team/city to an association that can't solely operate on its own

What are the actual numbers? Do they at least break even? How much is subsidized by the NBA?

They're also expanding in San Fran

Toronto will be the 14th franchise in the WNBA. The 13th team, based in San Francisco, will enter the league next season.

Canadians deserve the chance to not watch a local WNBA franchise as much as Americans do.

The NBA is about to get a gazillion dollars in its new round of TV contracts. They have to spend it somewhere, I guess. Why not more subsidized basketball?

Article is from 2023 but doesn’t really talk about current.

quote:

Back in 2018, current NBA commissioner Adam Silver spoke on the league's financial outlook. He cited that the WNBA has never once turned a profit. The league loses roughly 10 million dollars a year and lost close to $12 million in 2017

Most leftists aren’t actual consumers, they just cause a scene to inconvenience conservatives who are the actual consumers.

Also, I’m very much in doubt this next TV deal is as big as the NBA thinks it will be.

Then you're clueless. The bids from Disney, Comcast and Amazon have been reported and exceed $75 billion.

But muh nobody watches the NBA in muh small town.

If that franchise is successful - Clark deserves a monthly commission check

Could we just donate one from America? Nobody gives a good shite about the WNBA.

I really wonder if the WNBA is moving too fast with this expansion stuff. What if Caitlyn Clark starts to struggle a bit? What happens when people tune in to watch and realize the quality is horrific? Are they gonna keep tuning in?

I just see Caitlyn Clark and the rise of interest in women's basketball being more of a fad than anything that's sustainable. It might be cool now, but how cool will it be to these fans watching the Wings and the Sparks play crappy basketball on a random Tuesday night in July?
