They start intentionally fouling Lively halfway thru the quarter…lively makes 4 FT in a row Thunder lose confidence, game over.
Reasons this was a bad move.
- Lively.is not a terrible Free throw shooter. He maybe below league average but he is not at 50% or worse.
-Terrible message to your young team. Basically telling them we can’t beat these guys straight up so we need to go to a gimmick.
-Gave Luca and Kyrie a break. Stoppages helped them rest and took some of the scoring pressure off their shoulders.

I thought it was one of the worst coaching decisions I’ve ever seen in a high leverage situation.

You are wrong.

Lively was a 50.6% free throw shooter for the season.

He was 15/29 in the playoffs before going 4/4.

The blame is how unclutch SGA was in the final one and a half minutes down three points.

1:28 - SGA turnover
1:02 - SGA misses a three pointer to tie
0:29 - SGA offensive foul turnover

You should have watched more of the game.

Lively went 1/4 on the first fouls so it did start to work. I would suggest 5 points of 4 possessions is what they would have wanted, they just didn't capitalise.

He’s 50.6 % you didn’t think you google that before writing that?

It’s still a bad message to send to a young team…I’ve watched a lot of Maverick games this year and Lively hasn’t missed critical free throws all year especially considering the Mavs have the best close game record in the league…(google that you bunch of a-holes).

It was a bad coaching decision and I bet it doesn’t get used again this playoffs.

Its not just about the offensive end, sometimes the goal is the force the player to the bench which affects the teams defensive strategy. and it worked. The one defensive possession Lively was on the bench OKC scored after getting 3 offensive rebounds.

Lively actually shoots free throws at a worse percentage in the 4th quarter (47.8%) than the rest of the game, which seems improbable based on your statement.

Is it me or do these guys all seem to shoot FT better than their average when they start to get “hacked”?

Well it’s funny, I did google to see that Lively is also a 50 percent FT shooter (2/4) in “clutch” situations this season

That’s with the broadest definition of clutch available (game within 5 points, game within 5 minutes, and in the 4th/OT.

Seems like he’s a 50% FT percent shooter no matter how you slice it outside of what seems to be 1-2 anecdotal recollections you have of him hitting big free throws. Certainly it’s a small sample size. Most likely because the Mavs don’t want a FT liability on the floor in close games

ETA I see someone already pulled the full 4th Quarter FT % as well that are lower

add in a couple more turnovers and misses down the stretch, and you have westbrook and Durant during crunch time as thunder players
