I see a lot of viewpoints expressed on this board about NIL in particular and player compensation in general. They seem to run the gamut of emotions, but I'd like to better analyze the bases for the opinions concerning player compensation. Please choose the option which best matches your opinion.

A. Tuition+ - Players should not be compensated other than tuition, room, board, and the usual perks of being a major college athlete (academic assistance, athletic assistance, marketing assistance, improved room and board options, etc.)

B. Tuition+ plus FMV NIL - Option A plus FMV of their actual NIL. (No Texas A&M NIL pool.)

C. Capped Limited Salary - Players receive Option B plus each team has a payroll of $2 million for its players.

D. Capped Revenue Sharing - Players receive Option B plus players receive a fixed percentage of their conference revenue. For example, if the SEC has total revenue of $420 million and players receive a 40% revenue share, each team has a payroll of $12 million for its players.

E. Unlimited - If someone will pay it, the player should be able to receive it.

Don’t think any salary cap will work, can’t really put a cap on NIL. Usual suspects will pay extra under the table anyways.

The NFL should rescind the age requirements and this would largely be a non issue

Probably B or C. They’ve got to get a handle on this thing. This isn’t professional sports. The playing field needs to be somewhat level, most schools can’t afford this. Unless you just want it to be the same richest schools winning every year!

I would like them to start by reimplementing the one year sit out for transferring and see if that helps at all.

I honestly love that players can finally get paid. They deserve it. The main issue is the lack of regulation with NIL where boosters/collectives are paying for players instead of utilizing their Name/Image/Likeness. You can argue they are paying for their name to be on the team, but it's still not what I think the intention was. The combination of this with the transfer portal that allows players one free transfer without sitting out has changed college sports forever.

The NCAA sat on their hands for the last 20 years when it was obviously heading this direction instead of waiting until it was too late to do anything about it. If there's anyone to be upset with, it's the NCAA.

In your opinion what were the reasons for not paying them to begin with? ETA: Or at least what was your understanding of the reasons?

Why not a farm league that isn't collegiate sports.

I'm not sure if that's entirely true. The NBA saw a lesser amount of underclassmen enter their draft this year than they've seen in quiet a while, by a pretty healthy margin too. Most believe that's because of NIL and ability to transfer.

College sports were introduced as amateur sports, but they evolved past that. Once it hit the 2000's and ridiculous money started being made by the NCAA, schools, and coaches, it became time to consider it. The NCAA refused to even look at it, though.

There was already money being made before the 2000's, but once TV contracts and cable exploded, it felt fair for the players to at least see something. If the NCAA had jumped ahead of it, they could have put a cap on it and ensured a more level playing field instead of the insanity we are seeing right now which is driven by NIL and the transfer portal being implemented at the same time.

I really don't care unless it impacts the product on the field.

You cannot pay athletes as employees not from the University. Title IX would make it impossible.

I don’t really care if players get NIL. What really bugs me is the tampering going on and the open transfer portal. These NIL groups need to start putting non-compete clauses in their contracts, like nearly every contract in this country that involves endorsements, etc. there also needs to be portal windows.

Kind of like that the last 20 years. How many different national champs have we had since 2000? LSU 3, Bama 6, Florida 2, OSU 2, Clemson 2, USC 2, then I think Texas, FSU, OU, Auburn and UGA 1. That’s 11 schools in 22 years. The same big schools have always won and will continue to win. I think the issue is how to handle to NIL without souring fan bases on it with the tampering, transfer portal, etc. Because as much as I know these fan bars loves their schools and programs, they will find other to things to do.
