Crazy stat

NBA University
@NBA_University

Driving in the half court and creating buckets for yourself is crucial to winning basketball. These 50 guys drive in the half court to get a bucket most often…

> Drives to score A LOT
^ Efficient Scoring on Drives

SGA is off the charts

Theoretically the further right on this chart (volume) the harder it would be to be higher up (efficient)

Luka has won 50 games once in 6 seasons.

Beard has won 50 games 10 of 11 seasons.

Congrats to Luka on a top 3 finish that is a great achievement.

Nah. I just watched 4 games of him foul hunting against the Pels. Foul merchants don't get mvps

By the way, I have no issues with Jokic getting it. 3-4 players were in the hunt and he has more notoriety and titles which go a long ways.

Jokic:

26.4 PPG
12.4 REB (4th in the league)
9.0 AST (3rd in the league)

58.3% FG | 35.9% 3PT | 81.7% FT

Do you really think SGA’s on paper counting stats are that much better than Jokic’s? That’s not even getting into advanced stats.

Well:

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander NBA total ranks 2023-2024

Points: #2
Steals: #1
Deflections: #2
Contested 3s: #5
Estimated Plus/Minus: #1
Estimated Wins: #1
30 point games: #1
Blocks by a guard: #5
TS% by a guard: #2

Fewest turnovers by a top 10 scorer.

Led the youngest team in NBA history to clinch the #1 seed.

OKC record with SGA: 55-20.

30.1 PTS/5.5 REB/6.2 AST/2 STL

SGA was 5th last year. 2nd this year but close to Jokic.

Sabonis is good but that voter needs their vote taken away

Jokic:

1st in VORP
1st in Offensive Win Shares
2nd in Defensive Win Shares
1st in Total Win Shares
1st in Win Shares per 48
1st in Offensive Box Plus/Minus
1st in Defensive Box Plus/Minus
1st in Overall Box Plus/Minus

He earned it. But I would add Denver was projected to finish as #1 seed and finished 2. OKC was projected way lower and finished 1. With youngest team in history to do so. Younger than some college teams. And SGA led them to that success. So had it gone to SGA, I would say earned. Jokic is on a more veteran team and has a lot of credibility in titles and name recognition to help his case.

They both did great bit you can look at what SGA did for his team and have a legit argument.

Another crazy stat

StatMamba
@StatMamba

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the first player since 1967 to average 30+ PPG on the number one seed in the West and NOT win MVP

They didn’t get the one seed til the last game of the season. Voters minds were made up by then. If they won the conference by a few games it would’ve changed things.

Nope. The Jim Harden style of play is frowned upon when it comes to MVP

He's Harden 2.0 glad someone said it.

They 100% got this right though Jokic was your easy winner.

A family man first and NBA superstar second. We are lucky to have him in Denver.

Shaq was just rude....

He actually told the MVP ( by a wide margin mind you) that he shouldn't have won it.

I tell you there's some crazy jealous thing going on right now in now basketball.

WNBA just got charter flights because of Caitlin Clark and yet vets continue to dump on her.

Especially if they don’t make it out the 2nd round. Voters will move on to the next best thing.

Bro are you related to SGA or something, give it a break. Dude is terrible to watch play with his constantly looking to be fouled. Jokic plays exciting basketball, not trying to get into a free throw contest, and so he crushes the advanced stats.

He's insecure. Most people have him as a top 10 player of all time, but he's still incredibly insecure regarding his legacy. Jokic just won his 3rd MVP as a big man. Shaq is salty because he knows he only won 1 MVP in his career. He doesn't want another big man to have a better legacy than him.
