How would the 1998 Pacers rank if they beat the Bulls and Jazz?

If the Pacers won Game 7 of the '98 ECF and beat the Jazz in the '98 Finals, where would they rank?

To go through MJ and Malone and Stockton to win a championship would've been something for Larry Bird and Reggie Miller.....

I still hold that team and series in high regard. Basketball was infinitely more watchable for the casual fan back then.

Probably as a great team without a true superstar player. Maybe like the 04 Pistons.

Dude, Reggie Miller? Legit superstar in the 90s, especially in the playoffs.

I guess it depends on what you’d call a Superstar. Definitely an All-Star caliber player but IMO not a superstar at that stage of his career. Clutch as the come for sure but not what he was in the early 90s. That team’s strength was a ton of quality depth.

They were a great team and should have beaten the Bulls that year.

I think the issue is Jordan made great players seem only good in the 90s ha. He just had a way of psychologically beating his opponent.

Their resume would be strikingly similar to the Pistons teams from the '00s so I think they would be held in similar regard to them.

1993-2000 Pacers
1 Championship (defeating a Phil Jackson coached Dynasty team along the way)
2 NBA Finals Appearances
Five Conference Finals Appearances

2002-2008 Pistons
1 Championship (defeating a Phil Jackson coached Dynasty team along the way)
2 NBA Finals Appearances
Six Conference Finals Appearances

Guilty as charged, baw. The last full NBA game I watched was the Pels win (in person) against the Warriors in 2018.

Look I’m not going to pushback much on Reggie being considered a Superstar. I think he was as dangerous as anyone and the most clutch shooter by far. I’m just saying at that point he was under 20ppg, under 2rpg and 2apg. Early 90s he was around 22-25ppg, 4rebs and 4assist. Maybe it was a product of them having someone like Jalen Rose off the bench to give him longer breaks but his numbers continued ti decline starting in 98. When I say superstar I think MJ, Shaq, Lebron, Curry, Duncan etc.. I just don’t think Reggie is on par with those guys.

Fair enough. Reggie wasn’t as versatile as those guys but he would drill arse when he had to.

Wait which year did the Pacers win a title? I’m blanking on it.

It's what their resume would be with the 1998 title.

Reggie Miller was a 5x All-Star and made third team all NBA three times. I think it is safe to say he was a good player but not a Superstar. He had a Superstar moment against the Knicks though
