The head baseball coach for Walker High School was arrested for allegedly misusing school funds.

According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, head coach Nicholas Scelfo is accused of submitting multiple invoices for reimbursement on equipment that he purchased for the baseball program. The total amount that was reimbursed was over 29K.

At the end of the 2024 season Walker High conducted an equipment inventory which led to the discovery that the equipment bought never existed, deputies said.

After determining the invoices were fraudulent the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Scelfo for violation of felony theft and excess of 25K.

Reimbursing that much is insane. That should be approved purchase orders

I believe he was at Catholic PC last year. Saw them play at Opelousas Catholic. Had a good squad. He had a decent first season on the 5A level.

It sounds like it occurred in the 2023-2024 year so at least it did not occur for years before he was caught.

He’s only been there for 23-24 school year. Red flags should have started to go up when it hit the 5-10k mark

I have no clue what a HS baseball budget is, I agree $29,000 is a lot. But there’s people that still from the military and DOD for hundreds of thousands for years.

Two golden rules to live by in the education field:

Finance and Romance. fricking with either will get you fired.

Such a low upside and dumb crime it makes you wonder about the motive. Did he need money quick and did it in 2/3 bulk ones or was this a long drawn out process death by a (29)thousand cuts?

Wonder if he can account for the 29k, even if he doesn’t have it anymore.

But maybe it’s all a big misunderstanding idk, should be an interesting case to follow if it goes to trial

A former firm I worked with had a female accountant create purchase orders for fake vendors she created with names very similar to actual vendors they had paid before.

She wrote POs for her shell companies that were >$400K combined until the Secret Service showed up at her house.

Dumbass.

That’s the interesting part - 29k isn’t a lot of money - so what was his end goal here if he actually did commit the crime. Was his plan to do this every year?

Drugs or gambling, maybe both?

Will his former school now do a review of inventory and invoices to see if he did it there as well?
