I think damn near everyone outside of QBs would choose NBA over NFL because of the money, the relative lack of wear and tear, and overall job security.

There’s a reason why Antonio Gates and Jimmy Graham became NFL players when they did, after they learned the NBA wasn’t in their future. Julius Peopers on the other side of the ball. Rico Gathers is a less successful case but was still drafted.

In terms of gifted dual sport athletes, there are lots of other guys who quit college basketball fairly early on and focused on football (Antwan Randle El, Marcus Spears, Donovan McNabb).

Charlie Ward is the rare guy in the other direction, and it’s because he wasn’t viewed as an NFL QB.

Over 99% of NBA players have never played college football, and I would guess less than 20% played high school football. My old arse played high school football and the level of pain/recovery time after a Friday night was a real thing. And that's small time high school football.

Unless they played at a high level of high school football, there is no NBA player that could play in an NFL game. I am not knocking basketball, it is just another animal entirely.

I'm sure a lot of NBA players played HS football but I doubt many of them are ready to take NFL hits on a weekly basis at this juncture in their careers. Careful what you wish for.

Lest we forget Nate Robinson thought because he was an athletic NBA player that he could beat a youtuber in a boxing match.

If you've ever watched NBA players do anything outside of basketball, they are the least athletic group in professional sports. Watch them try to throw a baseball, throw a punch, or swing a club or bat. It's laughable. Hell, half of them aren't all that good at basketball skills. Watching a big man try to dribble is comical. How many players have sub70% FT percentages?

The two groups who could transition the easiest would be NHL players and middle infield/OF types in baseball.

In an actual game? Idk, would they be able to deal with NFL DBs jamming them at the line and still be able to stay on time? I'm sure they can physically go out there and try to run routes but I don't know how effective they would be doing it that would actually warrant a roster spot above any current active WR.

Basketball is a physically draining game

Football you have as much free time in a game like MLB. Play a down, wait 30 secs, play a down, 30 secs, rinse repeat, punt sit for 3-7 minutes of quarter, 30-49 mins and then come back on the field

This is a ridiculous take

Rivers is mostly right although there is a huge spectrum. There are a few NBA players that would transition well to football, mostly the shooting guards and Small Forwards. Then there are a lot of the long lanky awkward types that would get absolutely destroyed immediately
