Seems like black coordinator is getting a HC job. Soon the only whites in the NFL will be kickers. ESPN will still be calling teams racist because there are not more black kickers.

Its crazy to me how fragile white folks can be. 6 out of 32 teams have a black head coach. Yup totally taking over and only white people left in football are kickers, yup sounds totally legit.

I just think the hoops you have to jump through to convince yourself this was the best hire are incredible.

Morris really hasn't been great at anything, was part of the reason Quinn failed and he also failed on his own at TB.

Ben Johnson has Jared Goff and the Lions in the NFCCG. That alone should make him the HC of the Falcons.

I really don't think anyone with options wants to work for Blank and McKay. The best owners in sports are the ones you never hear about. The worst ones are the ones who meddle too much and undermine their front offices like Blank does.

Did you consider that he might not want to be the HC of the Falcons? He's been heavily connected to the Commandos job.

I don’t disagree but the bar is so low for this franchise that even marginal success will be viewed so positively. The division stinks there is a lot of appeal

This is the simpleton view.

He won 10 games his first year. But then the Glazers, being the Glazers, gutted the roster and completely hung him out to dry his next 2 years. The roster was so barren that he had to start 5 rookies on the 2010 team. Nobody can be successful doing that.

ETA::Thanks to VADawg for the correction.

This whole McKay thing is being blown out of proportion.

And yes Blank has dipped his hands in football ops. But would you rather have Tepper?

I have a feeling we'll look back on this in 3 years and people are gonna be eating a lot of crow. But nobody admits they're wrong on here.

Second year. His Tampa teams went 3-13, 10-6, and 4-12 in order. The 10-6 team had the metrics of an 8-8 team (average score of a Bucs game in 2010 was 21-20) with a +9 turnover margin. I say this because I think turnover margin is something that evens out over time and is largely based on luck. Expecting a large positive turnover margin every season is unrealistic.

Their 2010 team had 5 rookies in the starting lineup. Their 2011 team finished last in the league in points against despite Morris having a defensive background.

I won't pretend to know whether or not this will work out, and I really hope it does, but this hire says that Blank had to go dumpster diving after being turned down by several other guys. If they liked Morris that much, they'd have hired him 3 years ago when he was already in the damn building.

Belechek wanted complete personnel control from all reports

And we know how that worked in NE the last few years.

They had to purge the building of all things Quinn 3 years ago and you know that.

Thanks for the correction. To be fair, when you have such a young team there will be struggles. He did a really good job as DC for The Rams.

Also, this hire is being lauded league-wide by coaches, players/former players, and insiders.

Hopefully Blank got this one right.

I would like to hear their rationale for hiring this guy over someone with a better resume like Vrabel. Vrabel has 4 winning seasons in Tennessee and won a playoff game I think

I wonder if the Vrabel/Arthur Smith dynamic got in the way here.

You can give me all kinds of reasons why Morris might be successful but let me be absolutely clear that this absolutely does not matter at all.
