Even if your defense is elite, a bad offense is going to turn the ball over and/or cause you to lose the field position game. Eventually the other team will need a first down or 2 to get into scoring territory. And no matter how great your defense is, you aren’t going through a whole game without yielding a couple first downs.

I couldn’t find it for college, but the last time an NFL didn’t get a single first down was the broncos in 1966.

what’s so funny?
that was supposed to say 2014 (since the CFP started)

is 10 years too far back?

then just go every year post Covid.
2 of the 3 champs have had top 5 defenses without having a top 10 offense.

And get worn out, demoralized, and have it get into their heads. 21-0. 1/9. All that needs to be said about what can happen to a team that holds the opponent to FG's but the offense can't get on the board. I'll take an incomplete pass to the endzone for a loss on the last play of the game like Ole Miss last year anytime rather than watch death by a thousand cuts on 1/9/12 ever again in my life.

Defense wins championships.
And with our current defense, there will be no championship and playoffs also appear to be a fantasy this year.
