This is exactly who he's been. He just played out of his mind in the CWS.

The numbers show Hurd isn’t that great. Tip of the cap for what he did last year. He’s just not the guy we thought we were going to get

How can he trick his mind into thinking he’s pitching in Omaha every time he goes out there?

His stuff is very good, but he is the biggest head case of any pitcher I think I have ever seen.

What data would that be? He has one of the highest rpm fastball spin rates of anyone in college. He has electric stuff. He lost his command. If he can get it back he can be a really good pitcher. He isn’t doing it at the moment. I expect him to go to Cape Cod this summer and try and work things out. He is about out of chances.

He’s just a guy waiting to hit rock bottom. Turns out his bottom is way down there.

He’s lost every bit of confidence.

His 13.81 SEC ERA last year in combination with his 9.82 SEC ERA coming into today.

I keep seeing comments saying he only pitched well in Omaha last year, but that’s just not true.
He started pitching well in the extra inning game in the Georgia series late in the regular season.
From that point on, and throughout the entire postseason, he was one of our best pitchers. Not just in Omaha.
My point being, there’s still time for him to figure it out this season and have similar success down the stretch like he had last year.
Not saying it’ll happen again, but it’s possible.

If you go back and watch some of those games you’ll see he had a lot of good luck on really hard hit balls squared up right to guys

The data that actually matters I.E. his stats in actual games, not some bullshite metric that was invented 5 years ago that helps pitching coaches sell their systems and create ineffective pitchers that are obsessed with arbitrary metrics rather than actually getting guys out in baseball games

This is who he is. He had 2-3 good showings last year. Big ones. But he’s a head case with no control.

I hate it for him. He’s got a nasty breaking ball. But he’s a liability from here on.

Well, he has gotten better it seems.

A couple of more years of ERA drops like that and he will be there.

Data shows Hurd is a great pitcher, Braswell is a great defensive shortstop, Cam Johnson is the best pitcher to come out of high school. Reality is other than the CWS Hurd has been terrible. Braswell is not a shortstop. Cam Johnson will be good eventually, just not in time to help LSU.

Explain to me how his RPMs have translated to actual game stats? The guy can’t even be trusted to give you an inning against grambling

He's Caleb Gilbert. Fortunately, just like him he reached his peak in the CWS.
