He was up with bases loaded 1 out and struck out. This team has a problem getting the really big hit. Like the hit that would break a game wide open.

Maybe load the bases for him. Surely that'll work out great

Both very good points, it seems like all year long when RSP is there we just can’t get a hit, then blast out solo after solo homer.

Tommy has an unbelievable ba with the bases loaded . Before today he was 4-5 that's pretty clutch

This really is the problem. He's not going to have the same opportunities he had last year, but he and everyone else do get opportunities, and too often they squander them.

I know Tommy didn't just wake up yesterday and say to himself "hey, I think I'll get a bunch of hits with no one on base, and look lost when the bases are loaded". I know none of them are actively trying to do less when it matters more. But it is just a fact that this team struggles to get hits when they have a chance to blow it open.

They seem to score all their runs by the 4th inning, almost every game, and then do nothing after that. And in that 4 inning stretch they leave seemingly about 6 runners in scoring position per game, which has often led to a late inning deflating loss. They held on these last two days. Here's hoping the bats really have a sustained performance today, because we know how Sunday's have gone.

Yeah but rantards expect a 1.00 batting average in that spot. The 1 failed attempt erases the other 4 in their minds.

lol... I was just coming back to correct myself, when I remembered that this game 3 is not a Sunday.

But you know what I mean. Game 3's have been bad, no matter the day.

Some of y'all seem to believe every player is pre-alloted a certain number of singles, walks, doubles, and home runs, and gets to choose when to use them. "Why didn't he use his home run with the bases loaded and use up his out when the bases were empty!"

Pitchers are less selective with no one on board.

I actually just made a post about players not choosing to do less in certain situations. We all understand it. But it doesn't change the fact that you have to get more out of those really big situations. Tommy didn't do it today with the bases loaded, but he is normally someone we can count on, and of of course the 3 hits he did have, though less impactful, were still very important in a close game.

It's everyone else who just seems to come up empty in the biggest spots, a lot. People try to poo poo the idea of being "clutch", as some sort of mythical creation of uninformed minds. Despite the fact that all of the greatest players in history, in any sport, always played at a higher level in the biggest moments. I guess all of those guys were just consistently lucky. Who knew such a thing was possible.

Wrong! Flailing at 3-4 bad pitches is not the same as making contact hut failing to get the run across

The broadcast yesterday said he was 5/13 before he struck out with bases loaded in the 6th

That’s still .350+

Last year, his BA was much higher with RISP. This year it's lower. Confidence makes such a huge difference. I think it weighs heavier on him this year. Last year, he was more confident that if he did not deliver, someone else would. There was a confidence that they would find a way to win. This year, he feels like if he does not capitalize on his opportunity, that they may not get another chance. Really, the whole team is like that. Even the guys who ended up being clutch on last year's team like Trav are like that.

All this team really needs is just a little bit of mojo. If the get that, they can be really dangerous.
