In college, currently they would rather miss by calling a strike a ball than the other way around.

Seems like college umpires behind the plate have been horrible the past few years.

MLB seems to have a tighter, but much more consistent zone. College really seems all over the place.

Since it’s a professional league I’m sure the zone is smaller. College is bigger zone bc they are amateurs. Like in college football wr just have to get 1 foot inbounds and nfl 2 feet.

As Skip Bertman once told one of the LSU pitchers, "You can't get mad at the umpires. Listen, they aren't really umpires. They're school bus drivers, and butchers at the local Winn-Dixie."

In college, it depends on the mood of the umpire that day.

Strike zone college vs MLB

If college baseball had the MLB strike zone, 4-hour baseball games would be rampant

Hell, you had 10 combined walks just yesterday’s game. Imagine if they shrunk the zone.

Based on what I see, pitchers get significantly more calls above the strike zone and away from the batter in college. Below the zone and inside seems similar.

Are you asking why college umps aren’t as good as professional umps?

I would love to see the grid like the mlb has for televised games. Umps would get better just for accountability alone.

So true, and if you complain or show frustration as we did on Friday night the ump opens up his arm looking at the pitcher basically saying, “Don’t complain, because I’m gonna call it any way I want to, so stop crying”!

because every single MLB game has that square on the screen to show the world exactly where the ball crossed the plate.

basically forces umps to at least be close.

No that is not my question. It just APPEARS to me that the upper line for college is the armpit whereas for MLB it is the belt. I had no idea that there would be a difference.

What? You know the hitters are amateurs, too.
