Randomly ran In to coach Kelly at Buc-ees in gulf shores

With none of the Gumps recognizing him I decided to say hi and talk a little golf and football. I asked him why we are getting our teeth kicked in, in the portal? How is ole miss adding every elite prospect on the planet? His answer was genius. If you build through the portal you may get good players. Those players generally have little investment in your program/culture. After a loss or two they easily give up and look for the next team. A team that’s built correctly is built with in state, if possible, highschool talent, where you have more time to teach them your culture and get them to buy in to your process!
I found him to be very genuine, grounded and a pleasure to talk to.
I have never felt better about the leadership of the lsu program!

But I agree with you here. The only other time it was close was maybe when Saban was here. But even then I knew the NFL was just a matter of time, I don't think that is true with Kelly.
