He also won the golden spikes award and other individual trophies, played on the national team, etc.

Really? We have a track team. They win titles as a team. The Universities all compete as teams. I think what you mean to say is "excluding track."

We have a singles tennis team, is singles tennis a team sport?

It is. There is no need to argue over it, though. We have a golf team and a beach volleyball team and you can make many of the same kind of arguments. The fact is they win as teams and as individuals. I know the counterarguments that they are different than football, baseball, and basketball. It isn't a lack of knowledge thing, it is a difference in opinion thing on what you think qualifies as a team sport.

Sarah Finnegan was an 23 time All American gymnast and Ashley Gnat was an 18 time All American.

Geez, Ashley, leave some for the rest of them. I gave Bennie the nod because he was a national champion in two sports, but she has as much a case as anyone.

For baseball, I'd say yes.

Have to look at Pistol Pete and compare the two, not the easiest argument to win.

Likely more decorated than any football player.

Not sure about other sports.

No.

2x National POY
All time scoring leader (a record that has stood for 53 years...and counting)

The scoring record isn't relevant

The thing that separates Maravich from Crews are the POY awards.
Pete has 1 more conference, and 1 more national.

Yup. Another incredible athlete that gets overlooked by tRant and all other LSU casuals T&F isn't popular. I'd put Muna over her because as the years go by, the competition gets that much tougher in T&F.

He's gotta be the only athlete we've had who was pretty much considered the undisputed best in his sport at the college level for 3 years running. There's nobody else we've had for which you can't say there is an argument otherwise.

Hell, he's probably one of the only college team sport athletes anywhere (or at least one of a very very few) for which you can say that about period - at least for a major team sport.

It's kind of amazing to go back and see who was on the 1967-70 All American teams with him. Poor Kareem.
