The point is he was underpaid at Notre Dame (probably one of the most underpaid coaches in the country relative to his success

No, he wasn't. He was about the 10th or so highest paid coach in the country at the time, and his performance largely reflected that. He is not a $100M guaranteed caliber guy, so have fun with that.

Les and O did it so I just don't understand why BK wouldn't be able to.

I'm not saying BK won't win one, but if he doesn't then I think the obvious difference we will point to is recruiting and maybe coordinator performance

other avenues than direct comp from the school (sponsors, foundations, housing subsidies, private jet usage, etc.) but were still part of his overall package.

You do understand that all big time coaches have this right? Theyre not always as guaranteed as people think though.

I guess we will see. He was easily your best coach since Lou Holtz. Freeman is certainly a step down.

He has already accomplished pretty much everything but winning the whole thing.

He was winning double-digit wins in his last games at ND,

And won nothing of substance

Holler at us next time you’re offered 100 million and let’s see if it steers you in another direction.

You promoted a coordinator who had never been a head coach before. He then proceeded to lose to Marshall and nearly Cal and Navy lol

Oh and he had a worse record than BK with an easier schedule

There were plenty of Notre Dame fans that were calling for his termination. And unfortunately you guys are seeing why

What about 8 and 4 - any chance like maybe? Thats what the Sunday game shows us is very possible. Way more likely than a 2 loss or 1 loss team.

It is worth noting that he was only making 2.7 million at ND and LSU tripled his salary.

Perhaps the increase was to compensate for all the negativity or added stress applied by those on the Rant...

We've just been extremely fortunate, so we take it for granted, but winning an NC is extremely difficult

Right! Winning football games is really hard, guys!

We have 4 national titles in 130 years of playing football. Winning games and winning national titles are two different things. Winning an NC is hard to do even for a school like LSU who has a big advantage being the only major football school in the state. Again, we've been fortunate lately. See two-loss NC team and Joe Burrow.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious you don't have the chest for real competition. You like fair weather and calm seas.

I'm kind of undecided or at least ambivalent about Kelly at this point.

On one hand, he has been a consistent winner. When people say he hasn't won the whole thing, that just isn't true. He's won one or two national titles in a lower level. So he knows how to do it.

He is obviously ambitious. For success and for money. I can't fault him for that. That is a desirable, even necessary trait for a college football head coach at the highest levels.

On the other hand, some of the things he's said and done, and some performances of his teams give me pause. Getting blown out by TAMU and Florida State is worrying. Did we quit in those games? (Georgia was a steam roller and we at least tried to keep punching in that game).

And some of his off-field behavior makes me wonder about him. Why say you are going to beat the heck out of a team, and if you do say it and it's recorded, why lie about it when your team gets thumped? And I think he faked an accent last year. He just seems ill at ease sometimes.

norvell had losing records his first two years numbnuts why lie?

So it was 3 years before he had a winning record, ok.

LSU had much better talent (albeit fewer overall personnel) when BK took over compared to Norvell at FSU.

FSU was paying Norvell to be a .500 coach and they came pretty close to that considering his first year was the Covid year. BK is getting top pay to have LSU a contender for the NC.
