Hiring his mediocre pal Denbrock doesn’t inspire confidence.

It is worth noting that he was only making 2.7 million at ND and LSU tripled his salary.

Don't tell the IRS

The school paid Kelly $3,317,436 in total compensation

$608,500 was in bonus and incentive compensation

Comes out to about 2.7 by my math. But i did go to LSU and not Notre Dame so you will have to forgive me if my math is way off.

One thing I would be cautious about is this is the first coach in a while with almost no financial incentive to win a title. The last 3 were trying to get paid.

The lack of decent coaching is what has me feeling like we're a lot more than a few years away from a title. We've had a few games where the head coach has taken us out of the game early due to boneheaded yolo decisions.

The OC is about as creative as blank piece of paper.

The DC doesn't play right players at the right times and chose to go with basically pass prevent 90% of the time by only rushing 3 linemen.

I can accept that <20 yr old kids need time to learn and develop, but we're paying for a much better coach than we're getting. Add in his odd deer in the headlight appearances to the media and I wonder if he hasn't had some sort of event. I don't see any way of winning without getting better OC/DC and BK making better gametime decisions.

I think he was being wildly optimistic...or lying.

This is a valid point so far as I can see.

It is an unpleasant trend to be sure. He frequently comes up small in big games. I think he needs to rethink his entire coaching philosophy now that he is in the SEC, but who knows.

Exactly! Unless he as another awful QB he plans to bring in via the portal for next season. The man contradicted himself as soon as those words left his Yankee lips.

I'll forgive you, as you seem to not know how ND - a private school that doesn't have to publicly report compensation - structures its contracts ( link).

He was getting $5+M through other avenues than direct comp from the school (sponsors, foundations, housing subsidies, private jet usage, etc.) but were still part of his overall package. Freeman is in the $6M range this year, as a point of reference.

Perhaps it is your LSU education that you think Kelly was making about half of what Narduzzi at Pitt makes. Use your common sense.

Can’t agree more . BK is here to win Nattys . That means working very hard off season , recruiting , etc . At this level it’s a year round job . You have to love it .

Thanks, I already made that point in an earlier post. BK is making more money here in addition to his LSU salary as well. The point is he was underpaid at Notre Dame (probably one of the most underpaid coaches in the country relative to his success) and got a huge raise to come to LSU. That should make you feel better that he didnt just dump you for a better chance of winning.
