I can't imagine Heard not being a starter next year

He was probably disappointed this year. I get that. I would've liked to have seen Emory Jones moved to guard and let Heard start at RT, but that is coaches decision. surely they will do it next season.

wouldn't think that it's just NIL because of that. Kid is very talented. If Kelly doesn't think he's ready to start at RT, then he definitely is gone.

I always hear that coaches want their best players starting, and try to adjust to get them in the game. Is it possible that heard isn't one of the best 5 lineman we have next year?

I don’t think it’s a question of IF he starts but more of a question as to WHERE.

Possible? Judging by his playing time this year and who is likely to come back, I would say it’s probable.

A guy with his type attitude is not needed, no matter how great he might be...his decision not to travel with his teammates speaks volumes in my opinion. If he can't be mature enough to fit into the program then he needs to go. This is just speculation and opinion on my part after reading comments made by BK.

The sense though is that it is not only about starting but getting choose where he starts. That’s a big problem if so.

I agree and it makes me wonder if he’s already made his decision and another team has incentivized him to sit out.

Yes, it's possible

It's also possible that he is one of the best 5, but none of the best 5 is a Center.

If Frazier and Dellenger are both back, where does he start? He *could* beat someone out or be in a rotation with someone, but it's not guaranteed.

Rumor is, he only wants to start at LT. If that's true then see ya later.

Why would they do that? EJ is a two year starter and two time all-sec at right tackle. You don’t move him just to satisfy one player who hasn’t earned it.

He’s been on the same team with Will Campbell for 4 years and hasn’t been able to beat him out of the LT position any of those 4 years, so now he’s going to pout about it?

I believe they most see EJ as a NFL guard instead of tackle. Letting him be elite at guard for a year will only increase his value since he could fill multiple gaps in the NFL if he doesn’t start.

Yes I understand that but he’s also your best right tackle. Kelly is worried about playing the best Oline not making one player happy. Playing guard will not increase his draft stock. Scouts know he can play both. Tackles make the money

If that were the case why wouldn’t he already be in the portal?

Likely, Heard was told he would have to compete for the job. For some guys,….that’s not good enough. The problem with guarantees is that it takes away incentive, most of the time, but not always. IMO it’s not a good precedent to set because if the player doesn’t perform or needs coaching,…you’re back where you were before the guarantee.

He 100% will be a starter next year, it's just not going to be at LSU. He is deadset on playing left and was banking on Will Campbell sucking, and well, he didn't.
