Did Neal play any 1B in preseason?

Curious if there's an option to put him there and let Jones DH down the road.
As a disclaimer, I'm all for letting Jones get all the reps at 1B until April for this lineup to hit its ceiling, but just wondering if Neal might be a contingency plan

At least from listening to too many CJJ press conferences this preseason it seems like Jake Brown would have the first crack at 1B if Jones isnt there

Yeah I know him and Larson are getting the work. But if you want Neal, Travinski, and Jones all in the lineup this is 1 way to do it

No

I think he played a little 2B, 3B and OF in the preseason, but not 1B.
He’s only 5’10” so he doesn’t have ideal size for a 1B either.

This is the last way to do it. Neal and Trav can DH. Trav can play 1B. No reason to confuse your starting catcher. He's going to need his rest also

Ideally yes, but you need a contingency in case Jones never gets better at 1B. Travinski didn't really work out there very well last year. For the record, I don't think we win it all without Jones at 1B

Jones is a good 1B.
Unless he starts to K at a 40% clip he’s going to be in the lineup. And certainly wouldn’t be replaced due to defense lol

people were spoiled by Morgan and forget that an above average fielder at 1B is the norm.
it’s literally where you stick your best bad who maybe isn’t a great fielder or lefties who can’t play outfield.
Having all the pieces line up to have Morgan at 1st was an absolutely luxury.

I'm more worried about Jones being able to hit a breaking ball.

sometimes all people know is LSU. I get it.
It’s just not always a great barometer

I wonder if Trav could play 1st? Big body, moves well for his size, makes picks at C

They tried that last year. That would be more of a lateral move.

Jones is fine at 1st base

I member, but trying to think of a way to have all 3 bats in lineup along with Neal/Milazzo. Jones has made some good plays and made a few look a lot tougher than they are.

Neal - C
Travinski - DH
Jones -1B
That's the way the 3 bats stay in the lineup. I like Milazzo and he has been clutch in the past but honestly, I think he will be a situational catcher this year. The better all-around catcher (hitting and defense) is Neal.
The bigger issue this year is 2B/OF. I know this is not the same topic for the post. Who is on the bench if Milam and Brown continue to perform?

Jake Brown, Frey, and Larson saw the most playing time at 1B after Jones. Neal saw time in the Outfield and at 2B. If anything to get Neal on the field and his bat in the lineup its going to be at Outfield or 2B depending on how those positions play. But right now seems like Milam is going to make it very difficult to not have him in there.
And I like how the staff is approaching the Catcher position right now. I think splitting the time between the trio of Milazzo, Neal, and Travinski is going to pay off in the long run for each to stay healthy.
I think the best way to approach it in SEC play would be starting Neal Friday and Sunday and subbing Milazzo in the 6-7th inning in those games with Travinski DHing. Then have Travinski start at Catcher on Saturday with Neal DHing. That maximizes the two bats of Neal and Travinski but also plays all 3 pretty equally to spread the load.
