Chase mindset...Can you blame Chase for opting out?

Can you blame Chase for opting out. He's coming off a Bilitnekoff season. His stock cannot get higher. New team that lost a shitload of NFL caliber players. New quarterback, who has tons of practice experience and who seems talented, but is still "new". Again, where do you go from being the best receiver in college? If he were draft eligible, he'd have been the first receiver taken this year. He could play this year, risk getting hurt and losing millions...risk having a sub-par year due to a relatively inexperienced qb (and no Joe Brady). Or, he can sit out this very peculiar Covid year, virtually assured of making 1st round money in next year's draft. I want him to play as bad as anybody, but I understand his thought process here. He already won the natty, so not like he has something to prove. It's a business as much as anything else. He made a business decision, and as bad as we hate it, it makes sense. Flame away.

I think we know his decision isn't bad from a business standpoint.

My issue is the timing, he took practice snaps from younger players. He should have done this weeks ago.

That's a fair criticism. I suspect Jamar, the athlete, wanted to play and struggled with it until others laid out the scenario and the options...and the potential effect on his family etc. Tough spot.

LSU still doesn’t play for four more weeks and they aren’t even doing any game planning yet. That is not an issue at all.

Yes I can. I’ve been on staff with LSU teams. It’s a brotherhood. It’s more than just the sports. He quit on them. They go in to the season with goals and expectations to win a national championship. He started that journey through camp. It wouldn’t have been if he did it when Katy Vincent did it. But he started with the team like he was going to be one of them in the trenches fighting with them for that goal. Then laid down his gun and walked out once he got in to camp and the battling started.

Still think seeing his friend Delpit go down to a freak Achilles injury in practice and seeing what happened to Tua last year has brought home what a lot of agents and other people have been saying to him and has made him ask himself if it is worth the risk.

If it is truly a risk management decision then I support the kids decision either way.

If it is about Coach O going on Fox News and saying he supports Trumps support of college football playing this season then he needs to grow a pair.

Seeing almost the entire O-line quarantined for two weeks probably didn’t help. It showed how quickly this season can fall apart. Suppose a WR gets exposed suddenly the whole position group is out two weeks and games are missed.

You are kind of right. Chase absolutely has done enough. No question.

But, he's a smaller WR and we don't know what kind of time he's going to run. LSU lists him at 6'0" (probably shorter) . If he runs, for example, upper 4.4s do you think he's a top 5 pick? Top 10?

Yet, if he put together another season similar, he's a Heisman finalist. In fact, with the smaller number of players, he'd probably be the favorite.

There is also risk. If he doesn't have the same season, those same measurables could weigh him down a bit more.

From a logical perspective, Chase opting out does make sense. But, it's not the home run obvious decision people make it out to be. Is he a risk averse person? Is he a swing for the fences person?

WRs generally don't get seriously hurt.

I actually think Kary Vincent hurt himself in the draft with his decision.

Agree, After last season, best wide receiver in college football and would have likely been a to 15 pick and 1st receiver off the board.

One thought I had is maybe Chase sees the writing on the wall with Myles.... maybe the chemistry just isn’t there between them.... maybe he gave it a go in the build up to the upcoming season and he feels Myles will not be Burrows and it will only hurt his stock for the draft next year ???

Pretty sure people don't care about him opting out. Just the timing is pretty shitty

Chase leaving is an issue the team will have to overcome. Him taking snaps away from younger guys is not an issue. There is still plenty of time to make up for that.

Yes I can...quitter and hopefully a slide on NFL market. Just a big alarm indicating another crazy WR who only cares about himself. I hate the Patriots but look what they did with mediocre players and team comes first mindset!

Wanna know how I know you didn’t play football at a high level?
The players literally say they “Are going to war”. They see it as a battle. It’s a battle ever play.

Also you might want to read the definitions to battle.
Battle Definition

an extended contest, struggle, or controversy a battle of wits 3 : a struggle to succeed or survive

Anyone that has a problem with this kids decision & criticizes him over it should be ashamed. As one of the top WRs in the country he picked LSU over everyone else despite the fact that we had an awful track record for WR production. He has been a great player/person on and off the field helping lead LSU to a National Championship while having one of the greatest statistical seasons ever. He's been highlighted on multiple platforms as one of the best players in the country which has also put the spotlight on LSU in a positive way and now because of extenuating circumstances he decides to make a decision that is best for him and his future people want to criticize him. That's just pitiful!! You can make all the arguments you want to try and justify why you're upset at a 20 year old for making a life altering choice, but no matter what you say you are still pathetic. Be happy for the time he was here and for all the great things he accomplished for himself and LSU. It sucks that we lose him for this season, but I wish him best of luck in the NFL and hope he will be a great ambassador for LSU for many years to come.
