We came into this season assuming certain players would carry this team, our assumptions were total wiffs.

1. Hurd came into the season projected as one of the best Friday night guys in the league. He isn't even a Sunday guy at this point.

2. There were reports saying Bingham could be an All-SEC caliber player. He hasn't been in the starting lineup the last few weekends. Currently hitting in the .270s

3. Kling was suppose to be a guy that was going to make the biggest leap from the 23' roster. Sitting in the .220s

4. We assumed we would get the Neal that started in the opening day lineup in 23'. His approach at the plate is terrible.

5. Pearson was going to turn into a seasoned leader, he's still batting in the .230s.

6. Travinski was the senior leader, he has disappeared in the second half of SEC play.

Not trying to attack these players, we just thought we knew what we had them. Unfortunately, we were all way off.

So were the preseason prognosticators and pollsters. LSU was in the top 5 in most of the preseason polls.

Remember how we were all bragging before the season about our pitchers and the amount of left handed arms?

Albeit, pitching has been carrying this team, but we all thought we had more depth and talent in the arms then we turned out to have.

Say what you want at Pearson, the dude has been clutch when called.

I was expecting the Rant to be miserable today, and it is. But at least your thread is fact based. This is a fair summary of our year. The guys we needed to step up did not get it done. You covered most of them.

If you watched most of the games last season and not just the CWS, you knew this was not going to be true. Felt like CJJ hyped him up way too much in the offseason even though his Spring numbers were a telling sign of what was to come

#1 and #3 are by far the two biggest reason IMO

I think it was David Dellucci that picked us to repeat up to the week before the season. We were all fooled. Sometimes that happens I suppose.

Development issue? Seems like every returning player has regressed especially pitchers

HE pitched out of his mind in Omaha, the rest of the season he was who he was. Not good, when he lost confidence he unraveled fast. This season, nothing has changed.

This was just a misevaluation of talent. He is not an SEC caliber player, He was and is not Berry.

Just is not a good hitter

The catcher was supposed to be our deepest position. That has proven to be untrue. Neal is a liability behind the plats, Milazzo has cost us games as well and Trav, as you said has been downright bad the second half of SEC play

Pearson was going to turn into a seasoned leader, he's still batting in the .230s

This one is a head-scratcher because it seemed like he was coming on at the end of last season. He still has had a few big hits this year, but to bat in the .230s does not cut it in this conference

Overall, this season was going to be a huge step back. None of us expected it to be this drastic. We are horrible in the field, cant hit the ball and our pitching outside of Jump and Holeman for the most part is absolutely atrocious. The misevaluation of talent is mind-boggling. Jay hit the jackpot last year with White and Skeens, he needs to do the same after this year. We need to get good pitching, more than one or two guys, and we need SEC-caliber hitting. Either that will come from the freshman or the portal. We need to pretty much clean house, the talent is just not there.

Agreed, he is clutch.

To compete in the SEC you have to have a corner outfielder who puts up better overall numbers at the plate. I'd be willing to bet he's statistically one of the "worst" outfielders in the SEC.

I assumed he had things figured out when he played well in Omaha. So weird to figure things out at that stage, then it fall apart in a lesser stage. Definitely a mental issue for Hurd.

The biggest Diff is our micro micro mgr has lost his way in the jumble of data he’s consuming and zigging when he should be zagging. He’s been pathetic in his role this year. Instilling no confidence in anyone

Hold up on number 4. Neal is an offensive juggernaut along the lines of Condon from Georgia. He can really really hit.

Pitching has been carrying this team in the second half of the season. The first half of SEC play our pitching really struggled. That’s what really killed us since pitching was supposed to be our strength. Jay even said this before the season.

We knew we would take a step back at the plate. Hurd and some of our bullpen guys just never made the leap they hoped for.

honestly, a few of those guys are mid major guys, all of their good stats are vs smaller schools... almost being like a bully... beating up on grambling.

I feel like if Hurd and any one of the position players you mentioned had the season we expected from them, this would have been a completely different year.

Not saying we'd be tops in the conference and competing for a championship again, bc I think we lost too much talent after last year, but I have a feeling at the least we'd be hosting.

I expected Hurd to end up being a solid Saturday or Sunday starter. He can't even work an inning of relief now. I know he struggled at times last year until the end of the year, but he's completely non-existent this year.

I also thought Travinski would have the type of year Jones is having at the plate. He may be the player I'm most disappointed in this season. Seems like there's a lack of leadership from players in the locker room and I was thinking that he'd be a big part of that.

In my preview the three biggest question marks for the lineup coming into the season were.

1) Jared Jones
2) Mac Bingham
3) Paxton Kling

Two of the three were basically ghosts at the plate for a majority of SEC play.

Outside of Hurd being a non factor the entire season the rest of the pitching staff has done well enough to win series.
