quote:

“My first conversation with her, during the draft process, I knew I wanted to come to Chicago,” Reese said, per Chicago State of Mind Sports. “Immediately. Like, I felt understood, I felt loved.”

“We had a conversation on the phone where it felt like she was a mom,” Reese continued about Weatherspoon. “I knew I will always be good with her. She will always be there for me through everything.

“Just being able to have somebody that understands me as a Black woman, that looks like me,” the former LSU star said. “Who knows what I’ve been through, and understands me from that perspective.”

Enjoy the WNBA, where no one will care about, remember or watch you.

College ball is watched because of built in fan bases

Knew this was coming. She didn’t say anything wrong here and is not saying that.

She can still love Mulkey and pander. I don’t agree with it but don’t all of these athletes try to fit the narrative?

Honestly loved her time at LSU and wish her the best but I don’t give a frick. It’d be nice if we quit posting her every waking thought.

I don't agree with the "having a coach that looks like me" angle, but Angel isn't "throwing Mulkey under the bus"

Why would this be upsetting to anyone?

I see irony coming. Chicago will have a losing season, fire their head coach and pay coach Mulkay tons of money to coach Chicago. Now what would her statement be. She is a professional athlete. Take your money and play no matter who the coach is.

Angel often talks about people “looking like her.” Girls she inspires, this coach, etc. It’s standard language in this generation about representation and it does NOT mean that she doesn’t respect and connect with white people I understand why it can be irksome to hear, focusing on race, but it’s not being done in a negative or zero-sum way.

And if you choose to misunderstand this, please refrain from any hypocritical Cooper DeJean fandom, which —to white guys— should clue you into the concept. I, meanwhile, will support the Great White Hope on our behalf.

Because she's black, and a large portion of the board is waiting to pounce. Even if they have to turn a statement into something else completely (like you already saw here) to do it.

“Just being able to have somebody that understands me as a Black woman, that looks like me,”

Would you feel the same way if Caitlyn Clark said this about Indiana Fever coach Christie Sides?
