Honestly 2 DTs (Paea and someone else) is minimum and I'd be happy. That might mean we can pay more if BK and co believe a kid a worth it. Sure 3 DTs might be nice so our other players can go back to their natural position but life is never perfect or fair.

I mean I don’t know who but someone really needs to step in and get this portal/NIL stuff under control or you might as well not call it college ball anymore. Schools and donors are going to go broke trying to outfit their school with players who like the OT that left Bama then went to Iowa got paid and left again back to Bama before ever putting on an Iowa jersey. It’s ridiculous and can’t continue or set up a semi pro league during the fall for these guys and the schools can go back to what they were. Yes the college product would suffer because the best talent would opt to play in the other paid league but my God this can’t continue. At least put a cap on what each player can make so schools aren’t being robbed by these kids with over inflated price tags, rant over

You can't scheme to mask poor Interior defensive play in the SEC. Just not possible. The 2nd & 3rd level of the defense will struggle.

Don't we have the highest paid staff in the country? Cant cry about NIL battles... they have to figure it out.

If we don't get at least 1, hopefully 2 more DTs we will most definitely NOT be ok

Most of us make a living working outside of LSU football. Most of us don't make a living working on football at all.

Kelly, Baker, Davis, Peoples, Raymond, and Olsen work on LSU football. That's what they do 24/7. Their compensation is based on the success of LSU football. They have a limited number of years to make it successful. Their success is determined by the success of LSU football.

The LSU football program generates tens of millions of dollars every year.

The staff is not sitting around debating esoteric issues of NIL marketing and motivation. They are not going to waste the 2024 season.

I have zero doubt that IF the staff believes they need a DT to achieve their goals, they will do everything in their power to get that DT.

How do people go through life seeing and thinking the negative about EVERYTHING? It just seems like such a miserable existence.

There's no doubt about it per his Cowherd interview

Just can't outbid Texas or Miami for Barrow's services which seems to be the case

That is a fact and right now the middle of this defense is worse then last year. No experience, no depth. BK is responsible for this. Program is in year 3 and no way should any group be this weak. BK hasn't learned his lesson and thinks he can attract these mercenaries with just the LSU brand. Nope, you either pay up or bust.

I don't think people realize how bad and how thin our current defensive interior really is. Obviously it's not *literally* "nothing"--there are players on roster--but it is as close to nothing as you will ever see at LSU or any other top-half-of-conference P5 team in the country. We've got 2 returning scholarship players, only one of whom is good enough to get rotational snaps on an average unit.

It's embarrassing for that group to be that weak in year 3. Say what you will about Les but his teams were always strong up the middle on both sides. That is the foundation and without a foundation you have nothing to build on.

I listened to the whole thing, but I didn't hear anything about needing DTs this year. What did he say?

Can't outbid? I doubt it. More likely they made a rational decision that they don't these players enough to outbid.

Again, I'm sure there's a plan. The plan is based on LSU being successful. The plan might not include these players.

This was true until 2014ish. One of the reasons Les got fired is because we started to see a big talent decline on the offensive and defensive lines in his final years and we lacked depth.

We can still look at D3 bodies? Think they can transfer during the season. Or convert more of our OL? How about LBs gaining 75 Lbs in 2 months.? How about grabbing obese walk ins from the Quad?
This D looks like it is going to get gashed again this season.
Worst D recruiting in decades. 3 years in and we cannot even get bodies that can walk.

So good at recruiting guards and centers that he just gave up trying to get tackles worth a damn,.

It's legitimately insane to me that people STILL think that NIL money is coming from the athletic department.

The tens of millions of dollars generated by LSU football is totally separate from NIL money.
