There are currently the highest bidder at this point, 850k.
I heard him say a 2 of there DL had a 1st rd grade and a 2rd grade and decided to come back to school, he did say they're paying the 1 million each to stay. They want a championship on the way out.
We need to up our game, Qb, DL, OL and top Safties and corners would be my top priority. It all starts upfront on both sides of the ball

Sorry, but who is Larry Johnson? This is very confusing.

So to recap

Larry Johnson. Hattiesburg.
There are highest bidder. 850k.
2 DL are pro ready. First or second rounders.
Each being paid 1.m to stay.
we need to pay qb, DL and OL and corners more money.
The line of scrimmage is important.

I’m confused, was he saying that 2 high school D-lineman in Harrisburg are both ready for the NFL?

How can a current Coach be bidding on recruits? Did I miss something?

When you say 'they're paying 1 million each to stay", this implies tOSU is paying - is this even legal?

This may be a top 10 convoluted and confusing post.

In this era, legal is a very relative term. That being said, I think that's where the collective comes in.

There has been some chatter that OSU was not doing enough on the NIL front for the trenches recruiting the last couple years.

I think OSU took the "chicks dig the long ball" approach in that flash equals dollars when it comes to excitement and while that is true, you need to pay the big men the right value (whatever that number is as the market dictates) and realize that a DT may be worth more than a WR or RB or even QB

He said they paid a 2nd round guy $1 million and has stayed. We offered a 2 rd round guy (mason smith) $500,000 and he left. We offered 1/2 of what they offered if all this is true.

Also, a current dl recruit has been offered $850,000 so you can imagine what Stewart from st. Aug is gonna get offered but BL says we don’t “buy” players.

Not saying either approach is right or wrong.

I'm exponentially more comfortable paying guys big money that are already on your roster and contributing for your program than paying a big money portal guy.

From a locker room perspective, it's much easier to sell Will Campbell getting a bag after all he's meant to the program than dropping bags on some guy nobody even knows.

Outside of a QB that is.

This has been so overblown. In context, he was simply saying we don't want to have a situation where we take guys that don't really want to be at LSU but we paid them so much to come that they couldn't turn it down.

Now if you wanna be at LSU for all the things LSU has to offer and the NIL is just part of that appeal, great. But we've seen what happens when adversity hits, which it always will, and a guy is only at a school because they dropped the biggest bag. They become locker room cancers and hit the portal quickly anyway.

Why would a 2nd round guy stay in college for a million dollars?

He’d make 3-4 times that in the nfl

Ohio State is not going to go into Mississippi and get a HS kid half the SEC wants. That’s just not going to happen. Also, OP is beyond confusing.

Because he wasn’t a 2nd round guy. More like a 6-7 round guy or less. Sounds like the coach was talking a lot BS to a kid that may have not known any better

The reasonable posters understood what BK meant, but other posters choose to be pissed that we didn’t overpay for DT’s in the portal that we’ve never heard of.
