Do you think there will be a change in format for Gym 101 with so much depth this year? In the past, we went through each event with a lineup of 8-10 gymnasts, but we could honestly have two separate teams compete like a normal meet. I could see a problem arise if we only have one judge, but showcasing our depth in a meet-like environment would be great for the team!

I would be in favor of that! But in essence of time, I don’t think it’s gonna happen. Although sometimes 101 lasts as long as a normal meet.

That was the absolute best I have seen this look in the pre-season. I mean I knew we would have depth, but that is astounding. If this isn’t the year, then it’s going to be hard to ever get there. I so believe in this team. Based on tonight, my best case, end of year lineups are:

Vault: Haleigh, Kiya, Konnor (Double), Amari, Savannah, and Chase (Aleah if her landings are good, but we may not need her in this lineup). Hate to leave KJ out of it because her full is beautiful, but it has to be 10.0 starts this year.

Bars: Bryant, Savannah, Cowan, Konnor, Jeffrey, and one of Aleah/livvy/Kiya (I love Kiya on bars, and her set always looks great to me but she struggles to get above a 9.8). My guess is it will probably be Aleah but the dismount is generally a tenth, so if there is another option, then maybe rest her here and go with that

Beam: Annie, Livvy, Konnor, Haleigh, Kiya, Aleah (love KJ here if she can get consistent with that back tuck leap series and would switch her with Livvy)

Floor: Kiya, Haleigh, Aleah, Amari, Konnor, and Chase (if Chase has consistency issues, then Sierra, Livvy)

What do y’all think? And there is huge amount of depth to use through the season (Koen on beam/floor, Livvy on beam/floor, the various other 1.5s on vault, Tatum/alyona/Livvy on bars, Savannah on beam/floor, etc)

I am so excited for this year!

I love your lineups but depends on Jay and the coaches. I think lineups are up for grabs. I was so impressed with Amari, Chase and Cowan. To win we’re gonna need to highest potential scores. It’s tough to leave people like Alyona and Sierra out of lineups but they have form issues. Definitely prefer Konnor and Cowan over Livvy and Kiya on bars. Alexis Jeffrey should be the new leadoff on beam. I would slot Annie at second. Konnor, Haleigh , Aleah, Kiya. I actually liked Coen beam as well so look out for her. Like someone mentioned this year talent wise is one of the best. All the pieces have to fit to win on the final night.

There is no way Jay is going to move Sierra from that first spot on floor when she has more than proved her consistency in the way she performs and executed her routines.

Personally, I love Jeff over Livvy on beam because her leaps are cleaner and I’d take Konnor out of vault and floor (and put KJ in that spot on floor and Aleah on vault instead) to save her body and give Aleah the final spot on bars as long as she can stick that dismount. Otherwise I agree with the lineup spots everyone above has said.

Did they say why Aleah didn’t perform her routines today?

To me, on beam, it may not be the best routine but who has the mental strength to stay clean. I definitely wouldn’t count Sav out of beam. She looked kinda nervous for her first time in the pmac. I am definitely not going to make final lineups until at least a few meets into the season. I was very impressed with Amari and Cowan. With all that said hopefully you won’t see the same lineups until mid season. I’d like to see them play with them and see what works and who steps up. I’m very excited about this season!

They are just taking it slow with her after her fall on the world stage.

I have Tori in my bars lineup based on last year’s performances. She deserves to be in that lineup. I saw what I needed to see tonight from her. Kiya, Tori, Savannah, and Haleigh are locks in my opinion. The last two spots are a toss up between Livvy, Ashley, Alexis, Alyona and Konnor.

Yes - I forgot Tatum; her set sometimes looks labored to me, but it does score well - slot her in for potential there, certainly.

Also, can’t believe I forgot KJ. She is definitely in! I think she probably takes Livvy’s spot.

another poster above said sierra deserves the first spot on floor because of last year - here’s the thing. I hate hate hate to leave her out of best case (and she should certainly see time), but at the end of the day, you have to maximize the highest potential ( assuming consistency from the others is there - if it isn’t, then that’s a different thing). She just probably isn’t in the overall highest scoring 6 of this team - and that’s a decision that is going to have to be made this year based on scoring this year not her performance last year (which was very very clutch, not just on floor, but also on beam). And that is going to be hard for the coaches in a number of instances (I think alyona on bars, Elena on anything, half of the people who were in the beam lineup last year, etc)

The other thing - I don’t think we can leave Konnor out of the bars lineup with her form. The judges will drool over that toe point. It is phenomenal - and that’s where the difference comes from when competing at the end of the year.

Exactly, even though we haven’t won a national title, many on here base things off like ability or what they have done in the past. Take a book from Oklahoma. No one cares about all around or past spots when the program is holding up a national trophy. Not trying to pick on people but if she is healthy Konnor should be on everything. I’m sorry her form and toe point is something LSU has been missing on bars and beam. With this depth, Aleah and Alyona shouldn’t be in our bars lineup whatsoever. Aleah is an 9.85 cap with inconsistent dismount . That’s not gonna cut it when Oklahoma is an 9.9 fest on bars every year. Alexis has scored significantly and consistently higher than Kiya in that bars leadoff. Yes I love Kiya but she should really only be doing beam from the get go. I was super impressed with Chase and Amari. Yes Chase was inconsistent on floor but her form is so crisp. If you look at the scores on floor compared to Alyona and Sierra, her potential and ceiling is a lot higher. Yes you gotta play around with depth but around mid season lineups especially bars and beam should be set.

I just don’t see Kiya and Aleah locks on bars. If Konnor can consistently keep her form and improve that landing, she really has the best form on the entire team. Yes making sure she is healthy is key but she will need the numbers. Aleah only stuck that dismount once last season as much as I love her. Same with Cowan. If she can stick that lay, her form is what keeps her spot. LSU has to pin point those bars and beam rotations to compete with Oklahoma. Last year and history are of the past. Will the coaches find the correct 6 when it counts is yet to be seen. We could literally field two top 10 teams out of the 22 on the squad. I have all the confidence the coaching staff will put the team first and pick the ladies who are consistently clean with the best form and stick landings.

I didn’t get to watch today as I was at a wedding so I’ll have to watch at some point tomorrow. Got to see some of the fall training and intra squads. All I’m gonna say is with the talent and depth of this team (deepest/most talented since 2017/2018), some very hard decisions will need to be made ultimately to maximize the teams potential to the fullest because this is a national little caliber roster and routine quality if they put the right routines out there. You’re gonna see kids who competed in lineups for LSU the last couple years get edged out for better routines. It’s gonna be tough to swallow but it’s the nature of the beast bringing in all these highly touted freshmen, transfers and getting kids healthy.

I expect LSU to play musical chairs and use their depth the first half of the season. By the last quarter of it, you’ll start to season those post season lineups take over.

Tigers performed 48 hit routines out of 50 total. Top 5 scores on each event yielded a 198.075 total. Superb Gym101 no matter how you slice it. Bring on the 2024 season! #LSU

The 48/50 is correct. Ballard had a fall on beam and hands down on floor. She had too much juice and I don’t think it’s a reason for concern.

Konnor’s double layout on floor is beautiful. Love the 2 pass routines. Actually, I hate them in general but I’m tired of watching other teams (Oklahoma) doing the least and getting the highest scores. If you can’t beat em, join em.

Agree on this - 100%. I wish everyone had to do three pass routines - but it all the other top teams are gonna do it, then I am proud of Jay for finally getting with the times.

So did Livvy make some big improvements over the summer? To go from just occasionally making a bars lineup to being in the mix for bars, beam, and floor - with the depth we have now - is quite a surprise! I had to miss Gym 101 this year so I did not get to see any of her routines.

I would say she looks, by far, the best (and healthiest) we have seen her in her entire time here. We always had hope she might show up on floor/beam with her lines, and perhaps this is the year (at least to see it sometime).
