I saw the National Signing Day Tracker and completely forgot what time of year we are in. Because of the early signing period and the portal, today doesn’t hold as much excitement as it has in the past. Not sure if it’s good/bad, it’s just the change of College Football as a whole.

Let’s look at the bright side, we know who we have and this class has become more than what most of us thought it could. I am very impressed by the push CBK and the staff has been able to display over the last few months. Things are looking up for sure!

They got rid of the bash long before the early signing day I think. That was just the nail in the coffin regarding its return

The bash was so much fun. Food, drink, and the cheers when a kids fax came through. Slide on into the boats lose a bit of money then go on home.

I made everyone, the first couple started in the Field House on campus. Gerry D. started them. You are right, food and drinks, enjoyable times. Many schools tried to duplicate, all failed. Michigan sent a team down, trying to copy, never got off the ground.

Ended the same year as the start of the early signing period

Other factors but the main attraction has to be the head coach wanting to be involved with the Tiger Gridiron Club, which obviously put the event on.

And the Tiger Gridiron Club can’t provide now to the head coach what it used to before to entice the head coach to come — about $200-250K.

That amount of money would go directly to the head coach to use how and where he saw fit. Saban, for instance, never used the money for personal use. He would use it to buy football equipment Joe Dean and then Bertman didn’t want to use athletic funds for. This was the head football coach’s money to use at his discretion, and he didn’t need the approval of his bosses on how he wanted it used.

If there was money left over at the end of the year, Saban would divide the money up evenly to the assistant coaches.

Long story short, coaches get everything they want now and extra $250K annually is not nearly what it was in say the year 2000 — when the nation freaked out that a head football coach (Saban) got a $1M annual contract.
