Home built in 83’ concrete slab.

Steel vs. Cement pillars?

I’m in Houston texas. (Katy) not exactly dry rocky terrain.

Every video I’ve watched was shitting all over concrete. But they were in Dallas or Oklahoma trying to hit bedrock. We are south worrying about wet conditions and steel rusting and corroding.

Guy selling steel said concrete sucks.

Guy quoted us concrete said “steel rusts here”.

I have no idea who to believe. The ONLY thing that makes me lean to concrete was the guy quoting that sells steel also. He claims he prefers cement??

So, what exactly are you looking to do? From your post it sounds like you want to raise a slab house.

If so, I had a neighbor do just that 2 years ago and he went with deep concrete footings with cinderblock piers filled with cement before the slab was dropped down on the piers.

This is in New Orleans, so similar weather and soil conditions.

He raised his house due to it taking on water when heavy rains hit the area. He first tried French drains, but that didn't work all the time so he bit the bullet and raised his entire house, slab and all.

This is just foundation repair. Tiny cracks and some cracks and separation that’s allowing water in. Just level is the goal. Not looking to raise an entire home. Just a millimeter here a half inch there one inch there.

No way in hell I'd go through that expense for a house being out of level by that little.

I'd surely address the water seepage issue, but could live with the rest.
