Devastating Fire

Long time lurker seldom poster. I have a question. We recently had a fire that destroyed our house and most of the belonging. Everyone and the pets are safe, thanks to fire alarms and smoke detectors. We are fully insured.
Now for property claims. The investigator hasn’t shown up so there isn't much we can do at this time. It will be a total loss. An insurance adjustor came by this afternoon to take pictures. In a casual conversation, we told him we have a disaster mitigation crew coming next week to decide what to keep and what to toss. He implied that was a waste of money because it was all soaked, smoked and loss. We know the tedious process of documenting everything. Our quandary is what to do with “stuff’ that is still useable/good? The freezer on the carport is fine? If it is declared a loss, can I move it to storage or sell it in a “fire” sale? We are kind of dumbfounded and experiencing paralysis through analysis right now, and would appreciate any advice/council the wisdom on the RANT can provide.
PS: I had one of the more beautiful yards in in community thanks to the Home and Garden Board – breaks our heart to see the ruts and destruction that remains after the valiant efforts of the fire department.

Thankfully everyone made it ok. Now for the Insurance process. You most list everything you want to claim with as much information as you can gather. Pics, serial numbers, pre fire condition etc. Insurance companies are not generous and will require all the data to justify payment. Good luck and best wishes for putting it back together.

Sorry for the loss of your home. My SIL and BIL recently went through this with Ida. 90% of their contents were lost due to water damage.
To submit their claim they had to document everything they threw out. Theres an app that they used to trace it. I can get the name of it if you like. Hopefully you had replacement cost insurance and nothing will be depreciated. It wont take long to get to tour contents portions maximum.
As far as the freezer. They will probably pay you for it. Tell them it isnt working anymore and the parts to fix it arent availble.

We’ve been through this and can give you some important information. How can I get in touch privately?

I read a thread, maybe here or reddit, where someone who purported to have inside knowledge of contents loss adjustment gave tips.
They said to be as specific as possible. If you list 5 mens shirts, they will value at the cheapest shirts on the market. If you list 5 pinpoint oxford Lands End dress shirts, they will pay the value of those specifically. One generic toaster may be $20, but one Wolf 4-slice toaster may be $400+.
