I'm with Safeco and have no complaints. I think it only went up $600 on me this year.

Mine went up 3 years in a row now. I tried anything I could think of. Can't find cheaper. People keep telling me USAA but I'm not sure if they have it or are just repeating nonsense. They won't write for Metairie but tell you to call USAA agencies (whatever that is). If house plumbing is older than 2011 the USAA agencies won't write a policy either.

Farm Bureau doesn't do homeowners in Louisiana anymore right?

I fight with insurance companies almost daily, just whatever you do, don't go with Allstate or State Farm. They are far and away the worst homeowners when it comes to taking care of their homeowners. I would rather have no insurance than pay those criminals a dime. There are good experiences with them out there, it's impossible to be that big and not, but we have 10x as many nightmare stories with those two than we do any other carriers and also the only two we've had homeowners file claims with the department of insurance and lawsuits.

Shelter, Farm Bureau (might not be able to get coverage), and USAA would be the top 3 I recommend. Make sure you know you're deductible, carriers are switching to a % based deductible now so depending on the value of your house it could be a huge deductible. And make sure it's replacement cost value (RCV) not actual cash value (ACV).

I use State Farm for auto and home. I talked with my agent recently, and she told me I was the first person she’s seen whose HOI hadn’t gone up.

Switched from Shelter to State Farm this year.

Shelter raised my rates 80% in two years.

25% increase is almost like a discount these days. I'd stay put

I also have State Farm and my rate hasn't gone up this year. I have auto, house, boat, and a small short term disability insurance with them. My agent retired last year so I have a new agent, but I don't know what to expect from her. My mom used to work for my old agent so he kind of took care of us.

I have Foremost. House in Baton Rouge. Last year, my premium was $2,603.55. Renewal for this year up to $3,956.13. Have a 2% hurricane deductible.

Dwelling coverage last year: $474,200 - premium $2,550
Dwelling coverage this year: $507,400 - premium $3,850

dang. The value of your house went up 7% but the premium to cover it went up 35% ? guess its just not valuations of homes that are increasing HOI rates.

I have progressive. Everybody went up. You might get a one time deal switching but then next year they’ll pound you in the arse on renewal, but most companies aren’t giving out new policies or you’ll get a really high deductible

Also, under current state law, if you've been insured for more than 3 years, you can't just be dropped. The new insurance commissioner is changing that, so lots of people will probably be surprised to get nonrenewal notices. Hang on to your hats.
