Why did the PGA Tour not pair the Bryan Bros together?

It seems weird that they gave George Bryan a sponsors exemption into the Myrtle Beach Classic after his brother qualified due to finishing second a few weeks ago and then didn’t pair the two of them together.

I figured having the brothers play together was the whole point of giving George the exemption. It just seems like a strange move.

There are tiers the Tour uses to make groupings for tee times. They don't just assign whoever they want together.

They’re in back to back pairings. The exemption played perfectly because Wesley qualified with his 2nd place finish a few weeks ago, George making the cut in Bermuda, George playing well at the Q, and this tournament being in their home state. I predicted he would get a sponsors exemption right after he lost in that playoff for a spot. Not pairing them together isn’t strange IMO

I thought there were tournament directors/committees who do pairings for these type of events with less top players and smaller purses?

There are no hard and fast rules on this and it also only applies to certain pairings. Tournaments/PGA have a lot of control over who gets paired together Thursday/Friday. It’s not a coincidence popular guys are often paired together

Because popular guys are normally in the same category.

How tee times are made on the PGATOUR:
There are essentially 3 categories: Winners category, Regular members, KFT/Exemptions

The Winner’s category (in the last two years, or 5 yrs for a major) which always fall in the middle of the tee times. TV, and/or tournament often specifically request certain players play together.
2nd, top 125 from last yr + veterans category
3rd, KFT grads, Monday Q’s, sponsor exemptions get the last tee times.
Within the categories, it’s mostly random from there.

You stole that directly from Michael, Kim’s Twitter

What’s funny is the information you posted actually proves my point

Also, in that thread, he says that the tiers are not a hard and fast rule

I follow them on YouTube and personally, I'm glad they're not paired together. I feel like George plays better when he's not with Wesley. I have absolutely nothing to base that on.

I know. And his comment follows the winners category. Wesley Bryan and George Bryan are in very different categories

Watching how they interact it’s really evident why George has trouble closing and Wesley is a former winner.

George can get very jittery and nervous where wes seems to have a belief he can hit any shot in any moment. It’s fun to watch as an outsider.

Both are the best players on YouTube by a decent margin outside of Bryson obviously.

You're right and it goes to show how mental the game of golf is because there's no reason for George to ever be nervous with how well he strikes the ball. I have little doubt that George is a better ball-striker than Wes -- but the difference is Wes' confidence is the same whether he's 100 out in the fairway or 240 in the rough behind trees.

100%

Just watching them hit the ball you would bet money George is the PGA tour winner (at least I would). Wes just has the confidence and mental side of the game.

George is married to a Myrtle Beach girl, Mills McBride. Her dad is the former mayor of MB, Mark McBride.

Also, if I didn't know any better, I would assume that Wesley is the older brother based on their dynamic.

There still tends to be tiers based off categories of how you got into the tournament.
