Our golf course is currently privately owned, but the ownership team is ready to sell it. Their preferred vision is to become a member owned club.

Do any of you have any thoughts or input on this?

Member owned equity clubs are the only places I like to play. They are usually the best all around experiences.

I don’t think I would join a place with any other set up.

If it’s member owned but controlled by a very small group that is strong enough not to be pushed around by a few loud voices in the membership, then that’s the best set up.

This, but you need a good membership. I also think transparency with the cost of improvements helps people accepting assessments/costs.

My home course is member owned.

This was before I joined but the GM told me that about 8 years ago they wanted to redo the greens. About a week later, 10 members got together at the club restaurant and about an hour later they had come up with the money between the 10 of them to redo all the greens.

It's by far the nicest course I've ever been a member at and it's partly because it's member owned. It's an older course and these members will do anything it takes to keep it a top tier course.

Member owned is the only way to go if you want reinvestment back into the club.

I loved the fact that I owned my cart and could walk out and play any time.

I was part of one, that we eventually had to sell the property and I walked out with 35k in my pocket.
