I was watching some golf and one of my daughters walked through the room and casually asked how much better men were than women. I couldn't give her anything numerical, of course, so I just said, "well, they're much better". And that got me to thinking about it.

If you were to put the top 10 male golfers and the top 10 female golfers and made them play the same tees, one or two rounds on a typical man's layout and one or two rounds on the typical woman's layout What do you think the score average would be?

Just a bar room type discussion.

Play well this weekend.

There are many great female golfers. But at the distance the men play they would just get rolled.

Annika Sorenstam played a men's event years ago, she wasn't awful in it but the length of the course gave her little chance. Let her play from the tees the women play and the men play theirs and it may be interesting.

There's a mixed event in Australia. They play in mixed tee times and the winner is the winner, but they play men's and women's tees.

Which is exactly NOT the point. Equal footing, from the 1st tree to 18th green.

Women average score on the men's set up...79? Higher?

Men's average score on the women's set up...63? Lower?

And Mingo...gfy.

I think the scores would be closer if they play the women’s tees because I think the “skill” gap probably isn’t very wide.

If the women are playing Torrey Pines at 7800 yards, the gap is much much wider

It would depend on this course, but put to the OP's point, if you were to put the top 10 men and women in the world on a typical PGA Tour course playing off the same tees (assume PGA Tour tees), the average would probably be something like 66 - 68 for the men and 73 - 75 for the women.

That will vary by player and so on - a Lexi Thompson or Bianca Pagdanganan is going to have an easier time adjusting than, say, Jin Young Ko.

If you want to feel emasculated go play with a girl that played in college. You will get smoked if you're not a scratch golfer.

When I was a teaching professional, I played several times with Rosie Jones, who was on the LPGA Tour at the time. We played some rounds at 6400 yards and some rounds right at 7000 yards.

She kicked my arse at both distances. And I didn’t play badly. She consistently broke par from both sets of tees.

You can look at Annika and Michelle Wie's rounds as a bench mark. They didn't finish last, so they beat some guys from the same tees.

A better question is top 10 v top 10, each playing their best.

I don’t think it’s helping the girls case her trying to compare them to weekend hacks on TD forums. Those female golfers are unbelievable golfers. They play a different game than the men do. It’s not that they don’t have talent it’s the physical differences is beyond comprehension. It’s not really right to compare honestly. They play different courses. Even if they play the same course it’s a completely different golf course from tee to tee.

I’d say the gap between PGA players and LPGA players is closer than the gap between amateurs and competitive girls.

I used to play with girls that were on the LSU women’s golf team. I scored really well.

You sly dog...

So what do you think coach, eight shots difference on the long courses, maybe five or six on the short courses?
