Would like to plan a trip for late September around Weezer concert. Don’t know much about the area. Seems like it’s just private clubs.
Public tracks, is there a resort to stay at that has a nice course?

No resorts. If public - try to book an advanced tee time at Memorial.
If private - ask here

Woodlands? Oaks and Panther Trail or whatever they call it now. Has a hotel and water park.

Houston is Huge, the concert is in downtown.
Look into Highland Pines, Golf Club of Houston (LIV Event Course) and Memorial (PGA Tour Stop). All of those will be around $125. Close to downtown is Gus Worthem which is nice.

Gus, Wildcat, ElDorado, and Memorial Park seem to stay in good shape year round.
25 miles from Downtown brings in Blackhorse and Meadowbrook Farms.
Houston metro is really hurting for public golf now. 25 years ago it was totally different.

Tour 18 is always fun, albeit slow. Lots of fun holes designed after famous holes (3 from Augusta, etc.)

As someone that lives minutes from here, I would not recommend driving 30 minutes to pay $150 on the weekend here. While it is probably in the upper echelon of public courses in Houston, it is not $150 good. I can't really argue with them; they have people on the course every time I pass, but the price has gotten out of control. Some member told me that the memberships are reasonable, though. I probably have a couple more years before it makes sense for me, time-wise, to look into that, though.

If you’re downtown then Wildcat is your best bet. Memorial is good but a big headache to get on.
In my opinion no other public option 45 minutes to an hour or more away will be that much more enjoyable to make it worthwhile.

I had no idea Blackhorse was that price now.
I played the North course last year in a tournament, it's not a 150.00 course at all.
I never play weekends now.

Blackhorse is insanely overpriced and their hot deals are always like 4pm. Aka not even worth it.
OP, I live downtown and play Wildcat the most. Tour18 and Golf Club of Houston are also great.

Played Cypress Lakes yesterday. It was better than it has been.
Greens were a tad slow and very soft because of the rain, but they looked good.
It was the 90 degree rule all day. Birdied number 1 & 2 which was a nice start to the day.

Cypress or Traditions?
Have they built an actual clubhouse yet or still in those dumb trailers?

These are different than Cypress Lakes. Cypress Lakes is in Cypress. Those two are in Humble/Spring.
I am surprised and glad to hear Cy Lakes is in good shape. It had a very rough summer.

You're right. I was thinking of Cypresswood.

Played Tour-18 in Humble and Golf Club of Houston both in February.
Tour-18 is awesome with the hole designs from other courses, and it was maybe $65 if I remember which I think was a great value, albeit not in peak season so I'm sure the price has gone up.
GCoH was like $125 I think. I would say it's worth that, course was in real good shape. But I don't know how much more I would be willing to pay even for peak season. Definitely enjoyed playing there, and do recommend it, would just depend on exact price since there are so many others in the general area, if that sort of thing matters to you

Do you get a price break at Memorial for being a City of Houston resident? Never played it and it looked cool on TV.

25 miles from H-town metro gets you danger close to the Wilderness in Lake Jackson. I really love that course outside of the relentless mosquitos after rain.
Posted on 5/22/24 at 5:04 pm to MWP
Yes. Very cheap for resident. Very expensive for nonresident.

The Wilderness is one of my favorite courses in the region. Definitely worth playing. Non Houston residents basically pay an extra $80-$100 for a round at Memorial.

The mosquitoes at the Wilderness are the size of B-29 bombers right now.
