The issue for some was having to create a PSN account when they've never needed one before. For others it was that they couldn't create one because of the country they live in (there are countries you can buy a PS in but cannot create a PSN account for).

Sony tried to hide behind the claim that it was stated on Steam that PC players would need to create a PSN account, but that had been suspended since the game's release AND on Sony's own page (at the time) it said that using a PS account to play PS games on PC was only voluntary (check my post on the previous page).

If nothing else, the timing on this was piss-poor as content has slowed while they address bugs AND they've been adjusting the game primarily (but not always) through weapon damage nerfs (they don't seem to be a fan of metas). In that environment they dropped the bombshell of "oh yeah, in order to keep playing this game we're going to mandate you create and link a PSN account."

There are still a shitload of countries (including China and Russia) where you can't make a PSN account (and Sony WILL ban people for using a VPN).
Other countries (like the UK) require photo ID to create an account and Sony doesn't exactly have a good history when it comes to data security. And some countries actually require a PS4 or PS5 just to make an account.

Following Sony’s U-turn on Helldivers 2 PC account linking with PSN, the developer of Ghost of Tsushima has clarified how the upcoming PC version will work with Sony’s systems.

Amid the backlash to Sony’s announcement that Helldivers 2 on PC would force Steam players to link their account to a PlayStation Network account to continue playing, Ghost of Tsushima developer Sucker Punch has told players that parts of the game on PC will require a PSN to play, while other parts won’t.

In a series of tweets, Sucker Punch made it clear that a PSN account is required for Legends online multiplayer mode and to use the PlayStation overlay. It is not required to play the single-player portion of Ghost of Tsushima.

The PC version of Ghost of Tsushima, due out May 16, is the Director’s Cut, and includes the Legends co-op multiplayer experience, complete with cross-play between Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 alongside in-game voice chat. It is also the first PlayStation PC port from PlayStation Studios to use the new PlayStation Overlay. This UI, which you can see in the image below, lets users access their PlayStation profile, including their Friends List and Trophies.

I was just talking with someone about this.

The "fun" factor for a PVE game like this is engaging in a chaotic, frenetic frenzy of enemy-killing. If you have a weapon that's good enough to become a meta, that should be a sign that your other weapons are lacking instead of looking at it as that weapon being OP (unless it truly is). So instead of nerfing the meta, bring the other weapons up to that level to give players more GOOD choices to choose from instead of forcing them to choose among more not-as-good choices.

On the other end of that, instead of buffing enemies to compensate for good weapons, just buff their spawn numbers. Give players MORE of that "surviving a bloodbath" feeling.

On this point, I fully expect the new impact thermal grenades to get a nerf before too long. Last night I was pretty much soloing tunnel breaches at high levels just by tossing 2-3 of those bad boys at the breach spot (and having the quasar for any chargers or spitters that might show up while supplementing damage with my Breaker Incendiary). The chaotic massacre was glorious!

In one instance, we were waiting on evac and I had used my jetpack to get atop a tall rock outcrop. A charger and two spitters were headed toward the camp and I was fully loaded with ammo. I lit them up with an initial grenade to get their attention then peppered them with a couple of shots from my Breaker. Once they got to the base of the rock I dropped another incendiary then finished off the charger with a Quasar shot. By the time that was done it took only one shot to kill both spitters.
