That’s not how any of this works. Unless he really didn’t want to be there, Riley was always going to give OU a chance to match the offer. There’s no reality that exists where Riley secretly signs a contract with us, cleans out his office at 2 AM, and just starts working at LSU.
“Previous searches” were the LSU side getting cold feet with the “optics” of paying Jimbo, and Tom Herman’s agent putting out a fake story to motivate Texas. Freeman used us to leverage for more money, but that didn’t fall apart due to a leak.

Because I know. And when you know, you know. It’s not Lincoln. It never was Lincoln. It never was any of the coaches everyone said a deal was close or done. A few people are starting to figure it out so if you’re watching the board you may have noticed who it is now. See if you can spot it. Some of us knew it all along but everyone called us crazy. We’ll, guess we weren’t so crazy after all.

I don’t believe so, but if it is a smokescreen then we’re getting someone better than Riley, and that list is very very small.
Sounds good either way to me.
(You don’t use Riley as a smokescreen to hire a Napier or Tucker, you would only use Riley if you were after an equally-good or better big fish)
