This is an interesting question because they were both great recruiters but both of their undoing were ultimately due to roster mismanagement (recruiting). Miles had holes on DL OL and QB to varying degrees that led to his firing and O OL. I would say they both were fantastic recruiters with the short term lens but failures in recruiting with a long term strategic one.
I would say O was better because there was only one long term position group failure as with miles there were several.

I'll go with Miles because he recruited at a high level over a longer period of time.
eh. Miles' last few classes were pretty bad on both lines. I'm still pretty high on the potential of the younger offensive linemen we've recruited the last few years, too.

Ed won most of his games with Miles players.
That 2019 team had HUGE contributions from the 2017 and 2018 classes.
2017: Chaisson Deculus, Stevens, Shelvin, Phillips, Delpit, Vincent, Ingram, Charles, Queen, Farrell, Jefferson CEH. Miss transferred this year I think.
2018: Marshall, Chase, Lewis, Burrow (Transfered)
That’s 9-10 starters in the best offense of all time (depends on how you count Ingram who was mostly a key backup)
The issue became how many misses were in the 2018 and 2019 classes.

Miles had Frank Wilson

Miles's recruiting abilities were probably underrated, while O's recruiting abilities are probably overrated.
This. And while Miles definitely had serious coaching issues, I don’t remember him missing as often as Ed does.

Miles failed miserably at QB!
I don’t think this was a recruiting issue. He recruited and signed guys who SHOULD have been able to play QB in the SEC.
Miles QB issues were died to terrible coaching and terrible scheme. The recruits themselves were fine. Several would have thrived in other systems. And the ones who left, left broken beyond repair.

Oh so you don’t think we need OL and LB?

He got highly rated QBs but failed to develop.

The years we won the NC we shite the bed the following year in recruiting in 2008 and 2012
Well ummm we didn't win in 2011---
But I noticed that too- I've heard it said that winning a NC doesn't really affect recruiting that year; most HS seniors have made up their minds before the end of the year- the bump is NEXT year , when the natty is fresh in the minds of kids making their choice-
In 2009, the #1 class.
In 2013 (after finishing 2nd), the #6 class
In 2021???? Our "bump" from winning it in '19 will be wiped out or at least deflated by the coaching turmoil...we will see.

quote:DiNardo doesn't get enough credit for cracking New Orleans. That said, I think it was as much about a generational change in the New Orleans media. In the 70's and early 80s, New Orleans college sports reporting was about Tulane and maybe Ole Miss (Manning). LSU was reported on as an outside competitor. LSU coverage consisted of clips from "our affiliate in Baton Rouge." Even as Tulane became a joke, the old media guys kept up the facade. It wasn't until the late 80's and early 90's that it became acceptable for New Orleans sports media guys to talk about LSU as the 'home team.'
I wouldn’t say LSU always has recruited itself Bc before dinardo then Saban, all Louisiana talent would leave the state. The 90s were horrible.

Say what you want about his roster management, but Orgeron was easily the better recruiter. Les consistently allowed the top Louisiana five star guys to go to other schools. For a long time, the best players on Alabama’s team were all from Louisiana. Most of that was Les’ fault. During his tenure, Ed was able to keep every five star guy (up until Jacoby Matthews) in state.

Uhh, Frank was here from 2010 through 2016. Talk about not knowing what you're talking about.

Les was a little bit more consistent but they were both excellent recruiters. Outside of this year I have had no complaints on O from that coaching standpoint
