Preemergent and new lawn

I have a newer centipede lawn with sod being laid down last February. That last hard freeze really put the hurt on it but has hung on well enough. I have only fertilized it with milorganite up to this point. I was going to put down Prodiamine in a week or two but then I read that it might harm root systems in newly sodded lawns and not allow good grass seed to germinate. Should I be concerned about this and wait until next season to apply preemergent?
