I really like this gun and want to buy one.
I’m assuming the older generations of the glocks are cheaper?

Like it. Familiar with it. Thought it would be much cheaper than 4 or 5.

They changed the finish on the Gen 3. It’s not the old “Teflon” finish. I have one of those from back in the day.

It's usually $499 new, about $40 cheaper than the Gen 5. AIM Surplus has police trade-in models for $350.

Why Gen 3?

I’ll offer a answer on this since I’m quirky( and quirky for no real legitimate reason) about it:

I am a novice gun owner.
I own 3 of them and own no other 9mm (I do have other pistols but in .380 and .38).
I have about 30 magazines so I am married to glocks since all my mags fit them. I like M&P 2.0 better but it’s too late. I have too many glock Mags to start over and there is no need to have preferences anymore. Glock was my first pistol and I just will stick with it.

I am not such an expert where I actually prefer to change brands. I don’t think that will make me a better shooter. I’m fine with the brand. I can shoot most pistols just fine.

Im not even sure that it’s really necessary to keep one brand due to the magazines. But I do it anyway. Almost like I keep buying Milwaukee m18 since the batteries fit the chainsaw, drill, driver etc. I’m not so much brand-loyal as I am platform-preferred.

Going to the gen 3. Since all my glocks are 3’s, why not further the platform preference. Not that I am going all crazy and interchanging parts, but is just a quirky preference (even though I said I am not an expert Enough tk want to change brands).

I’m sure I can hear collective eyes roll about brand preferences guys like me are called something mall ninjas etc,. But I just want all mags to fit all guns.

Long assed answer short……it’s possibly a cost and convenience thing. Had I started with Canik 9mm or Ruger 9mm, I’d still be a canik guy or a ruger guy.

1. There's nothing wrong w/ a Gen 3. My wife and sons carry them. I carry a Gen 2 simply because I started carrying G19's before there was a Gen 3.

2.All of the "early" Gen 3'w had Tenifer finish. Glock changed to a different finish in 2012 when the EPA got involved (the gun components were made in Austria and assembled in Smyrna, GA.)

3. I don't think there's a significant difference in today's finish vs. the Tenifer.

4. I didn't click on the links in the replies you received, but presumably someone referred you to Gunbroker. They had plenty the last time I looked. If the price of NIB Gen 3's is too high (Usually $500 - $550), look into buying a used one. Glock (in Smyrna) will inspect any used Glock you send them, replace any worn parts, replace any parts that have been re-designed since the date the gun was made, and return it to you (along with any parts removed) -- all at zero cost to you (other than your cost for shipping it to Glock).

One thing I forgot to mention.

There’s nothing wrong with 4 or 5. All are time tested. So are most polymer pistols.

But the glock gen 3 is definitely time tested and no striker drags or any other issues with new guns isn’t really a thing anymore.

P&D Concelaed Carry in Walker may have them

I know they usually have a decent amount of Glocks in stock. Good prices and a small local shop to boot.

eta: This is the link to their store
