Going up the first weekend in October. My wife is wedding dress shopping with her friend and will bring our little one. I’ll be by myself and want to play a great course. Green fee is no object, only want to play the best course I can. I played the Championship Course at GC of Houston several years ago. I enjoyed it…what’s best place to play?

Golf Club of Houston is $92
Cypress wood is $85

I’ve heard good things about Cypresswood (which 18 should I play?)

I’m seeing Blackhorse which is like $144…is it worth it? Any thoughts are most welcome. Single digit handicap here so I’m not worried on difficulty aspect. Thanks

That’s a joke for Blackhorse. Never pay that.

GCH for that price isn’t bad. Make sure you don’t have to pay a caddie.

I’m assuming you’re only looking public.

GCH is boring
Cypress on the other hand, great track and has a special place for me after what it’s been through. Definitely play Traditions but I’d call ahead and make sure the course is in good shape (usually is) but I don’t know their fall punch timeline.

Where are you seeing that? I live about 4 minutes from Blackhorse, and I usually see the weekend rates are $108, and I balk at that price. Blackhorse is the best course in Cypress, but I'd rather play Longwood for $50 (when it's in decent shape) than Blackhorse for $108. When I can play twilight or a weekday round for <$85, I'd say it's worth it.

Black horse South would be the course to play vs the North Course, but for that money there’s no way I’d pay that. If you can get on Cypresswood
Traditions for $85.00 that would be a great course to play. To get on the Traditions course might actually cost more than $85.00. Cypress Lakes is around $85 for a weekend morning tee time and it doesn’t compare to the Traditions Course. If you don’t mind spending the money you might be able to get on Memorial for like $165.00… the Houston Open is November 11-14 so first week of October it’ll be in great shape. Non-Resident Adult TeeTime can be made 14days in Advance. I’d definitely would play Memorial if it’s an option.

Both Wildcat courses are in good shape.

Gus Wortham is certainly worth playing.

The Tradition at Cypresswood is good.

Timber Creek is a good layout.

High Meadow Ranch is awesome and Meadowbrook Farms is usually in good shape.

Blackhorse price is a ripoff, but you can find deals on GolfNow Houston.com

Really depends on where you are staying while here.

Guessing this means you are staying around the galleria

Memorial is closest but tough to get on. Slow round and you pretty much have to walk. I like walking so whatever

Gus isn’t bad

Wildcat is fine, I kinda hate the layout but it’s close and in good shape generally

Golf club of Houston is worth it. Been awhile

Cypresswood traditions is my go to course. It’s not too bad of a drive from town.

The rest of good public course are too far. I don’t mind Jersey meadow but it’s nothing special

I need to get out to longwood and few others

Drive the 90 miles and go to Whispering Pines. They should have available tee times.

Tour 18 is worth playing at least once.

Cypresswood Traditions and GCOH were both very nice when I played them. I preferred GCOH but would recommend either
