Goodbee- I’m staying but wife will never stay again. I think we had 100 mph gusts but not sure what the sustained winds were.

I’d like to know about Madisonville too. Radio coverage sucked balls. It was all New Orleans, New Orleans,, New Orleans. Even while we were getting the worst of it once it was getting past NO all they would talk about was NO. You would have thought the storm itself had evaporated. Hardly told you where the damn thing was, winds, etc.

I can’t do that again. I have some family/friends that rode it out with zero tree presence. There weren’t any clear tree threats where we are but a handful of worst case scenario ones.

I was putting a lot of faith in the NHC track. I know it’s just a forecast and not absolute. If it had stayed on the path it was forecast to, we would have maybe had 50-60 mph winds here. We need a lessons learned thread.
There obvious things you can do to prepare. But you thew out a couple of good ones that more people need to be aware of: keeping trees trimmed and away from the house (and power lines) and creeping a cash stash large enough to buy big ticket supplies and repairs after the storm.

WST > Cleco in every way imaginable. Had WST for 10 years, longest outage was Isaac and it was only about 12 hours. The half of the neighborhood supplied by cleco was several days.
I’ve had Cleco at the new place for a couple years now and I’m not looking forward to how they up the rates again because of a storm.

I’m on WST also in the Bush area. We’ve been out since about 9:00 PM Sunday night. Yesterday I was hearing it wouldn’t be long before we got power. Hopefully, we’ll get it soon because it’s getting hot in this house. Good news is their outage map is slowly showing people getting their power back:

finally got some intel from my neighbors who stayed in hammond and some pix of my property. it looks like god dropped pixie stix down on the yard except the pixie stix are 50- year old pines and oaks. there is no way i could have stayed, nobody needs that kind of terror in their lives
hopefully i can cut my way in there today. i think the only building that got t-boned is my barn (and boats). the house appears to have been spared

I saw about 10 Cleco trucks driving south on 190 towards mandeville yesterday.
Critical infrastructure stations, schools, hospitals, municipal buildings, and then resi areas.
I do remember after Gustav seeing hundreds of energy trucks parked at the mall of LA. Wish we could see that here in Mandy/Cov.

Cgrand, I stayed in Hammond and it’s a warzone. The university got destroyed, but good news many electric trucks are out and about with them staging at the mall.

Cleco guy said yesterday they had 2000 people en route. I know it's hard to be patient, I was in your shoes this time last year. But you will probably see some today and by tomorrow they'll be everywhere.
