The Caterie was my go to every Friday. Would get there for happy hour and hangout for The Pressbox Show with Jimmy Ott. They always had half priced appetizers and $1 longnecks until 9, then we’d catch whichever band was playing that night.

ALL OF THIS! With the half priced apps, you could get three different things for around $5

I remember going for happy one night, when I first discovered Golden Tee. I must have played for a long arse time because it went from happy hour to lights coming on faster than it should have.....

Not there then but late 80’s Loved

Dash Rip Rock
Cowboy Mouth
Better than Ezra (yes, they were late 80s)
What was the name of the really good techno-rock band that played all over?

Southside Arts Center

Went to see my cousin's band (Strider) there. Was pretty cool to see a garage band playing in what feels like a literal garage.

Some local talent in the 80's:

I'll add The Circuit Breakers to the list, really enjoyed them.

More regional bands that played often in the 80's:

A-Train
Asleep at the Wheel

Do not forget Amos Moses and a band I liked was Popular Creeps that later on became Good Night City. A lot of talent in those two bands

Politics and raising the drinking age killed the scene of the pate 80’s/early 90’s. There was a big overreaction to someone getting trampled to death at a concert at the PMAC. The government’s response resulted in tours stopping in Lafayette, Biloxi, and New Orleans and skipping BR entirely.

I don’t know what caused the decline during the 2000’s, but the burning of the Caterie in 2010 followed by the closure of Chelseas in 2013 and the Spanish moon in 2017 all left original bands with a major shortage of venues. I think it was just changing consumer tastes. BR bar patrons want a cover band to provide background music for a tailgate atmosphere, so 80’s, 90’s, and pop country cover bands get the gigs.

Remember how popular superior grill on government was on Thursday nights in late 90’s and early 2000’s? There would be a good band playing most every week and it was always packed.
