lived in Tigerland for a few years right around the time that first location opened.
Bengal Apartments - Phase 4.
Friends live in phase two across the street, backed up to the deaf school football field.
Used to watch them play on the balcony.
Never could figure out why the fans exploded in cheers.

Sports Page-early 80's to late 80's.
Caterie all the time.
Papa Joes-Florida Blvd. by Little John area. Little Saigon area now. Mid to late 80's.
Plank Rd., north of the Airport in Brownsfield area. Mid to late 80's.
And Hootie and the Blowfish, Sheryl Crow, Better than Ezra, and Toad the Wet Sproket at The Varsity in the 90's.
St. Louis Sheiks at The Chimes in the 80's. This was before Tim Hood bought the Varsity.
After that, I graduated, got married, raised kids, and quit running the roads. Plus, I got old and couldn't stay up that late...

I don’t know. In the early 80s there were the shite Dogs, Burnt Eclipse, Chaos Horde, Toxin III (originally from Crowley) and a million fantastic touring shows. The Chimes area was non-stop. Red Hot Chili Peppers played at the Union wearing nothing but tube socks on their privates. Those were wild times.

And the Sex Pistols played in BR in their only US tour in the late 70s.

Incubus used to make regular stops at the Chimes.
I think I was at every one of those up until 01/post Make Yourself

Were those month-to-month
Friend lived there after graduation for three months and if they were the same ones, it was month to month.
Were on the little island of land between Alvin dark and the street that made a giant u?

I was at LSU from 2003-2007. The live music scenes was awesome. My good friend played in a 90s rock cover band named Otherwise and we would go hang at the caterie every time they played. So much fun. I also really loved a local band out of Mandeville named Pandemic. They used to play at Clicks a lot. One of my favorite live bands regardless of local or famous. They were awesome and I was sure they were going to make it big. They ended up breaking up though.
Loved those guys, good friends with most of them.

Not when I lived there. It was $320/mo and like a 900/sq ft 1BR. My bedroom window was about 10 ft from Alvin Dark Ave.
I think it was this gem. It didn't look nearly this bad 20+ years ago. When I lived there the pool had probably been filled in for 20 years and the ladders were still sticking out of the dirt

Wrong ones.
The ones behind those are what I'm talking about. Three story.
But those were on the U. Right?
ETA: my sister lived in the blue roofed ones right across the street from those. And Bengal was right behind hers.
That area used to be great.
Before section 8.

No. The late 80’s and early 90’s saw national acts appear at varsity...
Some local talent in the 80's:
U.S. Times
The Human Rayz
Lower Chakras - Tim Parrish from the Human Rayz
Dash Rip Rock - Bill Davis from the Human Rayz
The Dick Nixons - crazy school teacher/s from Donaldsonville, who had a short school bus painted black-n-white checkerboard as their tour bus - Mojo Nixon was a fan of theirs, I think they opened for him a few times
Blue Light Special
Tabby Thomas - who still played at the Blue's Box all the time
Chris Thomas (King) - Tabby's Son, who is featured on the Oh Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack)
Beausoleil - even back then they had been around forever
Picket Line Coyotes - from Shreveport
There were a lot of other bands, someone else can fill-in the blanks on those.
Tons of regional bands played at The Chimes (before those guys bought The Varsity):
Georgia Satellites - were ALWAYS sold-out at the Chimes, long before they had their hit
Drivin' n Cryin'
Alex Chilton
Eric Johnson
Tail Gators
True Believers
Brave Combo - a polka-rock band from Dallas always put on a good show
Evan Johns and the H-Bombs
Lots more, but my memory of that era is often fuzzy.
Anyway, it was a good time to live on Chimes Street.

It was still mostly broke, college students when I lived there. It was maybe 10-20% non students.

99-01.
Tabby's Blues Box on Thursday nights.
They didn't card.
$5 all you can drink till the kegs float blues jam.
Was the greatest deal till Sports closed to transition into Reggie's, and the underage frat douches found out about it.
Still a good time with great music. But the lines for beer got too long, and the kegs floated too early.

Not even close.
Early 90's had the best BR talent. BTE would play two nights in a row (sold out) after finals at Chimes/Varsity. You still had Dash Rip Rock, the Dick Nixons until Richard died (saw their last performance), Cowboy Mouth and a lesser known band that I liked called Mean Tree (still have their CD).
The Varsity had a wide range of bands at the time from Danzig, White Zombie, 311, Sheryl Crow (actually talked to her getting off her bus that day and didn't know who she was at the time except fine as hell), David Allen Coe and a shite load of other great talent. The early 90's had some great acts in and coming through BR.

I can’t believe I forgot them. I’ll add

The Caterie was my go to every Friday. Would get there for happy hour and hangout for The Pressbox Show with Jimmy Ott. They always had half priced appetizers and $1 longnecks until 9, then we’d catch whichever band was playing that night.
