The idea of seeing Pixies or REM in Baton Rouge is bananas to me

Saw both...and many, many more.

The burning of the Caterie was a blow to Baton Rouge’s music scene that it arguably never recovered from. The closure of the Spanish Moon in 2017 has been rough on everyone as well.

Do younger people go to bars with live music near as much as they used to? It seems to me like they are more into breweries and places like the Bulldog.

It seems like if there was a huge demand someone would take advantage of the shortage of venues and try to open a new one.

Best band in the 80's was REDLINE. Those guys could freaking rock. SNEAUX and Popsicle were also really good.

No. The late 80’s and early 90’s saw national acts appear at varsity. The Pixies and spin doctors played one year, amongst others. The Bayou has some bands in the early 80’s that later went big, like REM. The Chimes had a good routine of acts including Mojo Nixon, IIRC.

All of this. Throw in Better than Ezra and it's the winner.

BTW, I was at The Butthole Surfers show at The Varsity. I might have been on drugs.

Les has been putting on shows every week behind the old Chelsea's.

I know Les. We used to hang out with all that crew years ago. We don't go out much anymore at this point.

Werewolf is still around. They were actively playing shows weekly before Covid hit.

If I show up and Rhett is still with them, you will hear either 'Shout' by Tears for Fears or 'Who can it be Now' by Men at Work.

the bayou was a big deal back in the day. it was regular stop on for the up and coming college-sound bands. believe it or not, the police played there more than once. the police really established a circut for that era which rem and others of the same ilk followed.

Come to his place Wednesday through Saturday.

Seems to be a show every night.

I live next door to his land and work at one of the places on it.

Also some serious talent showing up to those shows. Looks-wise, not musically.

We probably haven't been out to his property in 5-6 years or so. Last time I remember was a party after the St Paddy's Day parade.

Is that the same Chelsea's that used to be on State Street near the Superfresh before they tore down that shopping center? I've always wondered that. We used to go there a lot when I lived on State.
