I think his best plan should be to play the first game then immediately have a meeting in the locker room throwing Jenkins, Thomas, Kamara, and others under the bus for taking a stance on him then ask if he should retire immediate or play for a chance at the big one.
The idea here is to make it very clear that, by making it to the opening day roster, Brees’ final year of his contract is automatically guaranteed and if he walks they will have Famous Jameis as their QB. Brees can get them deep in the playoffs. Jameis probably gets them to 7-9 at best.

I don’t understand where his comment is related to the topic. Did he attack their cause? I thought he just attacked the appropriateness of a protest during the National Anthem. Did I miss part of the story?
